Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a friend whose son (8) would love a baseball unit study. (Really, it is my friend, not me! )
Any suggestions?

I think Amanda Bennet has one? Maybe?

It's not really a "unit study," but Cay has a nice booklist called "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in Picture Perfect Childhood.

Thanks Mary and Theresa! I sent her both of the links. Now I am tempted to do them myself for fun this summer (since baseball is what we are doing these days!)

Sort of an online unit study - includes links to all things educational and baseball.

PBS Baseball math stats project - for older kids but looks like a nice compilation.   Baseball is a great way to study math though this particualr study is for older kids.

Baseball Math - math facts drill with baseball game
Batters Up Baseball - same idea as above

This is a book we've used for baseball math - Baseball Math: Grand Slam Activities

Saw this one Take Me Out to the Ballpark at a recent Scholastic sale - it looks kind of fun because of the unusual shape and size.

The Ken Burns documentary series is a classic.

And a reminder of the thread Mary G. started a couple weeks ago on baseball picture books.

We did the Amanda Bennett study (well...most of it!). We had fun. (My daughter is 8, by the way.) My son (14) really enjoyed the Ken Burns series. We found a set of books at the library that profiles all the American League and National League teams (by division), and my daughter really got into that. She also liked learning about the famous ball players from the past.

We managed to squeeze in a Norfolk Tides game (Mets' farm team). Fun field trip!

Mary, Thank you for taking all the time to link the baseball pages, books, etc. I know that was no small task!

Nancy, It is good to know that someone is familiar with the Bennett unit study. I have the Ken Burns book on baseball and we (dh and I) watched the series when it first came out on PBS. I wonder if my library might have it. I will have to check this weekend.

Leonie, Thanks for sharing the notebook project link. I enjoyed reading it and also checked out the rest of the site as well.

Great ideas, thanks to everyone who has shared.
