TBTG we were fine during Sandy. There is a lot of damage and power outages all around us, but we were fine. I credit the spraying of the property line and the house with holy water, salt and oil...the practicing Catholic that I am...lol
My parents are needing to put their land back in order as the house was hit by several trees..the front porch, deck, and the corner of the house...with many more trees down. So much for the advantage of living on a wooded lot. After the insurance guy comes, they will have a lot of cutting and stacking of wood to do just so the power crews can get close to the house to hook back up the power lines which were ripped out of the house and buried under several trees. TBTG they have a wood stove, water and a generator. They don't have much fuel left and fuel is hard to find here. What few stations are open have HUGE lines and you are limited as to how much you can get. We may be taking a trip into Pennsylvania to help them out.
The banks are closed, the supermarkets can't open so anything is at least a half-hour drive away...and you never know what you will find. There are things available locally, but there are many people looking for those resources, too.
How is this for interesting...
The Post Office where my dh works has not had mail delivery in days. The sorting facility was flooded. God only knows when the mail will be able to be delivered and no word if it was damaged.
Then...the trucks that deliver the mail from the facility to the P.O. need fuel...so do the trucks that actually get the mail to the routes. Fuel is hard to find here and it comes with a LONG line and minimal gas.
TBTG they gave Jeff hours to work today. Some were sent home. Deo Gratias, because he needs hours in order for us to make ends meet.
He gets paid next week...maybe. If he doesn't get paid we will be hurting.
I know others have it much worse than we do. I just find the whole thing very interesting. We have learned so much about how this "thing" of having limited resources and fuel and such works in the greater scheme of things. We definitely need to step up the prayers for recovery....please JOIN US IN PRAYER, won't you??
Prayers, please??

Praying for you, Donna Marie, and all the other families affected. Thanks for the update. We've been worrying and wondering how everyone in the path is doing.

Praying and thanking God you are OK. Could I hijack here to ask for prayers for my brother and family in NJ and my uncle on Long Island - we have heard from neither of them and are worried.

I was hoping you'd pop in here at some point to let us know how you all fared, Donna Marie! I'm so glad your family is ok!
When we had that destructive day of tornadoes hit us a year and a half ago we were in much the same boat minus the extensive sand and flooding. Trees and power lines down everywhere, gas shortage, no power for two weeks, limited ability to get anywhere because of the scope of damage. We thought we were fairly prepared for emergencies before that, but we learned some essential emergency preparedness and survival skills during those weeks which we now keep in place without fail! It's just amazing how much is affected by major storms like that and an extended loss of power.
We are praying for everyone recovering from Sandy, especially those in the hardest hit areas!!!

I don't want to detract from this prayer thread (and we are praying) but Jen, some time would you share what you learned? Please

Sure.
I'll try to find that *preparing for emergencies thread* we had a while back, and if I can't I'll start a new thread in the morning.

I'm praying hard for everyone affected by the storm. We were very blessed to have been spared the worst of Sandy's effects, but there are so many, many people in terrible situations.
