Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Parenting Magazine is having a poll. The question is 'can a family have too many kids?' So far the yes answers are winning. This magazine seems to be mostly geared to small famiies. It would be good if they heard from us. Click on the link and scroll down the page to the poll. Parenting Magazine

Bridget,
I was going in to cast my no vote but could not because Parenting.com is only available to subscribers and aol.com

Thats odd. I'm neither of those. I cast my vote from a link someone else sent to me, but the URL is the same. I'm afraid I'm not techy enough to know why.

Wow that is amazing! 21,000 or so people think you can have too many kids. What a poverty of spirit.

It always shocks me. I'm so sheltered in my circle of friends, mostly hs'ing families who are open to life.

A while ago I was searching on the internet for the Duggar family website. i found some blogs and email discussions about them that were so ugly.   People who were just angry at all the family seems to represent. Many remarks about how they must be living off the taxpayers, couldn't possibly care for all those children, must be using them as slave labor and worse.

We, the families here, have a lot of evangelizing to do!

I agree, but I think people don't think "big happy family" but think abandoned baby, foster care, and other big news items first, and that's how they voted.

That is not to say that there are not people (many, many people) who truly believe that large families are a bad idea--there are. I just don't think a poll like this really reflects that. So many of my firends say, "oh, I wish I had more kids"...but only a few say, "I'm so glad I have none."

Your right, polls like this don't really reflect how people came to their conclusions.

The media coverage of larger or hs'ing families is often negative. That's why I think we need to evangelize by getting out with our families and reflecting the love and happiness in them.

I always need encouragement to do that. Not because it's so hard to go somewhere with everybody but because I know people are noticing us. I've spent much of my life trying not to be noticed.

At the bottom of the poll is an option to be quoted. My email:
"I think the question is incomplete.
It all depends on the circumstances and the value one places on children.
If children are seen as assets or gifts, then it's like asking "Can you have too many flowers?"
If children are seen as a liability, expense or hassle, then even one is too many.

We only have six children and see ourselves as fortunate. Any extras will be received with joy. But asking if X amount of children is too many is really saying "Which children shouldn't be here?"

Why not the other question: "Can a family have not enough children?"

Regards

David Bruggeman"

What a loaded poll question!
Can you have too much ice-cream? Yes/No.

That is why so many polls are sources of misinformation or propaganda.

Cheers

David

Yep, your probably right. I just thought they should hear from us. I doubt many parents here read the magazine.

The few times i've looked at it, usually in the doctor's office, it appears to be all about how to get away from your children and how to get that lazy, unsupportive husband to do his fair share of the housework. Not very uplifting.
