Wow - what a great picture book! We picked this up at our library last week on a whim as we were walking out the children's department, and boy what a find!

The story is set during WWII, and the main character is a girl named Lily, who wants to start a victory garden to help the war effort. It's the story of the garden, but also of the healing qualities of nature and kindness. In the back of the book is a section on WWII and the home front, explaining some of the things seen in the book in a historical context.

And the artwork is superb!

Thanks, I will add it to our library list!   That's one of my favorite time periods to read about with the children because it connects them with grandparents and great grandparents.
