You'll enjoy Twelve Catholic Men of Science by Bertram Windle. I had my 9th grader read it this year and she really enjoyed it.

We just finished our anatomy and physiology class and I thought some chapters might be interesting reads. Then there are the astronomers for our summer study and the electrical pioneers when we get to Waves by Fleisher next year. Yes, I was excited to find this series too!

Have you checked your library system? We can print 75 pages, per week, per library card. So, we have 7 library cards right now, times 75 free pages a week....that's 525 free pages every week! Black and white. One sided. Only from the computer....not from the copy machine.

I can't believe that Seattle/King County is the only major-metro-area library system to do this...so it's worth checking out.

You get to print free pages at your library ! Wow - that's great - definitely got one on our library system there .

And can I just say...I'm overwhelmed by this thread. I really had not idea. Looks like something dangerous to get addicted to...

Has anyone tried converting scanned books to digital ones? I am trying this with Adobe Acrobat Pro. I work with a chapter at a time. I use the Recognize Text (OCR) feature to first I convert the scanned page to editable text. Next I cut-and-paste into Word. Third, I have to format each line to remove the line-breaks so the sentences will go completely across the page. And fourth, I fix the spelling, spacing, and word formatting that the OCR translated improperly.

It is a bit labor-intensive, yet considering that I will have a fully digital book at the end of it makes is worth while. Does anyone have an easier way?

Your are welcome! The geography book can be used during the first three years of school before starting any formal work in geogpraphy. I also like the length of the lessons -- just right.
