Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

KC, the word "ORDER" has been at the forefront of all my prayer and quiet time this past week!    I think that I am taking that as my own personal focus for the year.

The other word I want as a focus for my family is WORSHIP. Our priest gave a great homily this weekend, which was totally about worship. He gave me (well, the whole congregation, but I felt like he was talking to me! ) many areas to reflect on and share with my boys.

In Christ,
Stacy in MI

My word is SERVICE. (coupled with JOY)

I know, I serve my family all day, but there are times I don't serve with the right attitude. I'm coupling it with the word JOY because that's what I intend to do this year, serve those I'm blessed to serve with JOY in my heart.

This spoke right to my heart. I need to focus on this as well. A WHOLE lot better then I have.

Grace...I want to be as open to God's grace as possible...I want to be a conduit for God's grace for others...I want to grow older in a graceful manner.

Our family word is Truth. We need to tell the truth, even when it is hard or painful. As we mature, we need to be more clear about the truth of ourselves and the world in which we live. We need to be ready to speak and act on the Truth!

Oh, and I will pick up some letters at Hobby Lobby to spell "truth" and place them on our breakfront in our dining area. I'll wait until they are half price .

Love,

My word for this year is Grace (the extending of.) God has been showing me quite a bit lately that I need to be a more grace-filled person, especially with my children.

My word for last year was Courage and what a year it was! so I am really looking forward to what God will be teaching me this year in regards to my Word.

You are brave Cay! I'd fear that would turn out
Like praying for patience

My word: Persevere

Back up words - industrious, diligent, example
(joy is wonderful btw, as a word I mean)

This is my first year actually choosing a word. So many of your words had crossed my mind and would actually fit quite well (especially focus and patience). But none of them felt like they were "the" word. Eventually I got the message and chose LISTEN. It fits me on so many levels. I need to listen to God, listen to family, listen to my husband and children and really be in the moment when they are talking to me. And I have to stop interrupting or commenting before they get to fully express what they are trying to say. I seem to have a problem with that.      So this year I will LISTEN. I do need to put some sort of signs up all over the house, though. I'm sure I'll need reminded on many occasions.

Moderation

That's for me! I tend to extend myself too much, eat too much, talk too much, worry too much, work too much.

The only thing I don't do too much is pray.

So this is the year to balance that out a bit. Can't wait!

I got sick the first two days of the year, so that helped me a bit . . .

I think I'm joining the JOY group. We had some joy-filled music to learn during Advent, and even though the last couple of weeks have been stressful at my house, I still feel a sense of complete happiness every week as I receive Holy Communion. We have a new Adoration chapel (that I have yet to seriously visit, sadly) and many other things going on in my parish for 2011.

My long-term hope is that some day, some year in the future, someone will look at me and see that I am filled with the joy that comes with the hope of Heaven, and that that person will ask someone how to find the same joy.

My short-term hope is that my dd, who is on fire to start the Confirmation process next fall, will see that I really believe in the joy that Jesus promises, and that she will see the Confirmation process (ups/downs, goods/uhhh) through, knowing that the Holy Spirit will bless her in a wonderful and unique way. Her Confirmation day will be a day of joy for me and for her father and older brother, for sure!

I always have a really hard time picking one word. I love all the inspiration in the thread. The areas I need to work on are preventing procrastion and creating order. And based on a title of a book, Self Knowledge and Self-Discipline are the other interlocking areas. Also Charity is another area -- which covers all the patience, loving, kind I need to be.

So these are the ones I'm pondering:
NOW
ORDER
SELF-DISCIPLINE
SELF-KNOWLEDGE
CHARITY

Whew. Not sure if I can zoom in on one. Or find a word to sum up? The only one I'm thinking is
HOPELESS CASE

Just plaster St. Jude images all over your house and call it good.
