Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any tricks to share on decorating a pillar candle? What should one use to write on it? How does one get "things" to stick to it?

Help!

Nicole,

MaryM and Gwen or others will probably answer this from experience. I know of references that refer to doing this, so I'm posting those. I haven't done it yet.

Thanks Jenn! I'm not very artsy but yet a perfectionist. It's always a struggle for me to let go and just get it done.

Jenn always has all the links! Great suggestions there. Those markers from Hearth Song are a really easy way to go. Some people just use metallic or colored paint pens. You can buy candle paints made specifically for painting on candles/soap. Another option is to mix a candle painting medium, like this one, with regular acrylic paints and paint with that. The medium helps the paint to adhere to wax surfaces like candles and soap. Avoid using heavily scented candles as they have more oils and paint does not adhere as well.

OOOO....those markers look great! I have found in the the last couple of years that the acrylic paints work just as well as the oil for candles. I also have used a metallic gold paint pen to do some of the outlining around the Alpha and Omega and the cross and it looks great. It stays nice all year.
