Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am wondering if anyone would like to join me in a discussion/study of simplicity from a Catholic perspective? The title comes from Dietrich Von Hildebrand's Transformation in Christ, chapter 5 being titled "True Simplicity".

The concept of simplicity is all over the place these days and yet there are varying ideas of just what it means. I thought it might be good (especially during Lent) to try and get a clear picture of what the Church teaches us about simplicity and how that applies to our lives. I am posting it here because it really strikes me as a philosophical type discussion that is very closely tied to education.

Anyone care to join me?

If you don't have the book -Transformation in Christ- you can read the True Simplicity chapter online at this link via Google Books.

Michele, this topic looks very inspiring and especially meaningful during Lent. I'm unable to read the chapter, due to our very slow dial-up. Is there any way you could quote a line or two for the purpose of discussion?

I'm interested too, Michele. We'll be moving to a new home next week and I'm due with a baby a few weeks after that, so I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up. But I'm looking forward to reading along at the very least.

How do you want to divide it, Michele? Talk about any aspects of the chapter? It's about 30 pages in the book. Want to divide that into sections?

I already have lots to say and I only read the first page!

I'm willing to try! That is 35 pages of challenging reading! :) Another Catholic book on the topic, which I read some years ago and liked very well, is John Michael Talbot's book "Simplicity."

That sounds good --take it in bites as it were. It's not a lot of pages but there's a lot there for sure!

Oh please do share! I am looking forward to it.

Should we start a new thread or just continue here?

I am definitely interested in joining you. This book has been on my want list for almost 14 years. Thank you for providing the Google Books link and offering to do this.
