Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ann Tompert wrote The Errant Knight in memory of her father, whose personal dreams were put aside, as he worked hard raising his 3 daughters alone.

Quote:
When a brave knight is called upon to serve his king, he is determined to be a devoted servant, rather than an errant knight wandering aimlessly about the kingdom. However, as he travels toward the castle, he is repeatedly stopped by people in need. Despite his sense of duty to the king, the knight’s compassionate, selfless nature compels him to help those in distress.

Many years pass, and the knight is old and frail when he finally reaches the castle. Certain that his errant ways have rendered him a failure, he is shocked to discover that the king has learned of his generosity and kindness. Honored as a hero, the knight sees that by serving the people, he has both followed his heart and fulfilled his service to the king.

~At the end, my girls picked up on the allegorical nature of the book and we had a really good talk!
~It would make a perfect Lenten Picture Book!!!!!!

Mary-

I feel your pain.
My library does not have this one, or Baby in a Basket or The Lemon Sisters.
We are obviously barbarians here.

Is there room in the barbarian section for me? Our library doesn't have it either.

This is one of our FAVORITE Knight books that we own. It is beautiful and perfect in every way. I still can't read it (and I have read it quite a bit) without getting a little teary-eyed.
