We've stumbled upon a delightful series of picture books based on the life of Henry David Thoreau. Today we read Henry Works, but we've also read Henry Builds a Cabin and Henry Climbs a Moutain. We have Henry Hikes to Fitchburg in the stack for tomorrow.
They are a lovely inspiration for nature study, today's book especially. I'm not much of an outdoors-person, but these might even get me out exploring!

Reviving this thread to add a few books we read in a recent study of Thoreau.
My 5 year old especially enjoyed the Henry books mentioned by Molly above. We all did.
The Trouble with Henry: A Tale of Walden Pond was excellent. Fun story and nicely illustrated.
Walking with Henry: Based on the Life and Works of Henry David Thoreau is a beautifully illustrated book, lots of nature references.
Poking around online, we found a few sites that might be of interest.
Walden Pond State Reserve
"Thoreau's Flute" is poem Louisa May Alcott wrote on Thoreau's death.
Eulogy given by Ralph Waldo Emerson at Thoreau's funeral.
Speaking of Emerson, we checked out a beautiful book, Father, We Thank Thee. I can't seem to find a link to the book, but found this link to the poem. Loved this one!

Thanks, Erica, for all the links. This is the way we love to do biography studies - picture books! And we haven't done Thoreau yet. I love Thomas Locker illustrated books so am really interested in that one. Have you seen any of his other books?

We love to do bios with picture books, too! I grabbed a couple at the library yesterday on Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, to go with our WWII reads ....

Hey Mary,
I did a search on Thomas Locker at my library and they have many of his books. They look amazing! I don't think I have actually checked any of them out (I will now!), but these two would be good for a naturalist/nature study:
Rachel Carson: Preserving a Sense of Wonder
John Muir, America's Naturalist
Oh, I forgot to add one website in the post above. This one acutally has old photos of Walden Pond. Walden Pond Photos Click on guided tour.
