How do you organize your art supplies?
What would you do if you did not have enough space available to have everything readily available near the arts and crafts area (also called the kitchen table).
What would you keep handy?
How would you organize and store the rest?

Oh my!
I was just wondering this myself -
Have you seen the Wildflower & Marbles blog?
I did a search of the board and when I saw her supplies (Jen, right?) I hung my head in shame, and admitted defeat 
Hopefully our next move will bring us to a home with a schoolroom again. I just lost mine - so I am struggling with trying to entirely reorganize, rearrange and find my stuff. My life in general, but I really want to get my school really back in shape so we can continue on. I am so much more satisfied when our environment is not in disarray.

Other than just throwing it all in a bin? This is one of the things I am working on this week. Identical wide-mouthed jars would be nice, but we don't use up jelly fast enough. Plus there's lots of odds and ends. Looking for good ideas myself....

A few years ago when I taught at a charter school in NC, the art teacher did not have her own classroom,only a supply closet,and had to travel from room to room to teach her lessons. What she ended up doing was putting together a well-organized cart that she wheeled around to each classroom. She planned her lessons so that most of the classes would be using the same media, (but with different grade-appropriate projects)and would stock her cart with these supplies for the week, wheeling it around to each class. Then each week she would re-supply the cart with materials for the next week. It wasn't ideal, but worked pretty well for her.
Perhaps some version of an art cart would work for you? Each week you could fill the cart from a supply closet, wheel it out when in use, then tuck it away in the closet (or elsewhere)when you need it out of the way?

Oh, and the way I organize my art supplies (at least until we moved-now they are all packed up ) is I had an entire china cabinet filled with them in the dining room-(the supplies we used most), plus a closet full in the back of the house with a half-dozen shelves and 4 sets of those plastic 3-drawer sets.
We do a lot of art, so this is one thing I am definitely looking for in a new house-- there must be room for art!

i have a blog post on draft that i'm planning to put up by friday. i use the little buckets that are available at target for $1 each. we used to use mason jars, but that didn't work out well.

I asked my husband for a computer armoire with doors on it for my birthday one year. I asked him to simply put shelving in from top to bottom instead of all the computer stuff. I keep lots of supplies and mail baskets in there, plus the kids' work packets for school. I even store a bag of birdseed at the bottom. It sits in the corner of our kitchen next to the kitchen table and looks great when the doors are closed especially! I love it. It has been a terrific solution for us for years.

We're short on space here so I have a portable art centre, basically the tins, scissors etc are in a builder's box, I pull out of the cupboard by handle and sit on table. Clean up and slide back in cupboard. Works far better than any other system I've used.
