Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK so I wait until the last minute to make gifts --then again Christmas only BEGINS Dec. 25th so there's plenty of time!

I have been wanting to make some of these bed caddys/organizers for a while.
I know all my kids (and daughter in law!) would love them:

...I'm happy to see I'm not alone in last minute sewing, Michele!

This thread on repackaging gifts has some great ideas for offering gently loved gifts in unique hand-sewn or handcrafted bags and storage. I'm going to pull a few links from that thread over here, and I'm hoping to add a couple of my own.

This is a FAVORITE subject of mine, so I thought I'd start a new thread to keep all these ideas in one spot.

So...

SHARE!! What are your favorite links, patterns, ideas for handcrafting unique and special hand-sewn, hand-crafted, or unique home storage?

Have you seen this Grab Bag pattern? It's really rocking my world at the moment:-)

It goes together really easily, and I've made quite a number half-sized, which is just right for a set of juggling balls/special treats, and the full size takes a set of treeblocks (I've been making my own).

I've doubled the pattern, and I mean to use that for storing some toys (I'm thinking they'll be great for some of those 'collections'—animals in animal print bags:-) ), and it might take a little bit of drafting, but I'm sure you could get it to a size that would take a pile of duplos.

For Puggle this last year, I made a playmat for his lego... basically a circle of material (well, two layers) with button holes regularly spaced around it and rope threaded through. He can play, then pull up the rope and it's a bag:-)

Have you seen this wall pocket pattern? I saw it a couple of years ago, was determined to make it, and spent a few hours trying to find it again only to forget where it came from. Then, last month, when I was cleaning out my bookmarks, I found it! Joy! I think that a row of these on shaker pegs would be awesome in a playroom!

I'm planning to add extra flaps (?) with an optional drawstring, kind of like the llbean totes that have a zipper that can extend a bit higher than the bag or the bag can just be used as an open tote.

So here is the finished bag. I made it longer and added an optional drawstring to contain the Duplo.

Very fun to make. I think I will have dh make some pegs to hold them. It would also be fun to make them smaller for a pegboard to hold some sewing supplies!

Wow, though, I had no idea my door facing was so filthy at kid height. Cleaning that soon!

I've been having so much fun going through all of Michele's links... such perfectly dreamy ideas there!!!!

Lindsay, I love your hanging toy pocket!!!! That would be great in a number of applications - I can see one hanging on my banister for those toys that migrate downstairs during the day and need to be returned home during quick tidies. What a perfect idea for that! I could repurpose the basket we currently use for collecting these treasures for something else! The little hanging pocket could be great for any smallish collection! Several...hanging on pretty hooks all in a row down the hall. I'm swooning!

I'm dying to try my hand at some of those fabric boxes from Michele's links, too. Those are fabulous!

I just got a new one. That was my second time to do embroidery, my first attempt at letters!

Well, they look great!!! I love the color and the font! What a wonderful way to add to your sewing projects! I keep waffling about pursuing a machine like this or not. Anyway, the toy pouch is perfect!

Have you seen all the designs available?

Like all these beautiful Marian symbols or these Christian monograms or this positively gorgeous Eucharistic set (that is sadly not the right size for my hoop. )not to mention all the flowers and truly beautiful fonts and oh so many pretty designs. I could go on, and on and on!

I wasn't sure I wanted or needed an embroidery option (I had an idea that most of it was cutesy and I don't really like cutesy) but am now SO glad to have one. But be warned, if you get one it WILL increase your online time as you sit and look through all those gorgeous designs!
