Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love this mystery ~ the beauty of love, friendship and giving. I have been given many 'Elizabeth moments' in my life, in fact one dear friend who is just like Mary, she only thinks of others and gives so cheerfully and willingly even though she is in need herself, her name is Elizabeth, so I think her aptly named.

I ask God in this mystery to OPEN my heart, keep STRETCHING my heart to give, give and not to count the costs ~ also to give with JOY on my face, particularly to my dearest husband and children.

I like to think about the special graces received by St. John the Baptist when he heard the greeting of Mary as she crossed the threshold into the house of Zechariah. Even though he was in the womb, he leapt with joy. Elizabeth recognized the special favor received by her son through the greeting of Mary. Many say that St. John experienced sanctity at that moment --The Lord Himself said, no man is greater who is born of woman.

The Church celebrates St. John's birthday as a Solemnity and his death as a feast. In other words, the Church gives greater importance to his birth. Is there another saint like that?

He is a most remarkable saint. It gives one hope to think of the grace and blessings he received at the Visitation.

Thank you for your thoughts Helen, I love hearing other ladies prespective on what speaks to their hearts most.

I would love more thoughts if others would like to share, as I am considering hanging in our home this picture:

It would be very big, almost the height of a person in size and hanging in our new schoolroom...so I'd love to dwell at present on the deeper and hidden fruits of this mystery...

I have to come back and say that I love this image with a special love...my mother use to kneel by her bedside every morning with a black leather missal full of images like this and it was crammed full of all her holy card prayers, sandwiched in between the pages, she would use it to say her lengthy morning prayers...every once and a while I'd go into my parent's bedroom and sit with that missal and go through all the images...this one struck my heart deeply at the time..so very special childhood connection..

Anne when I look at your picture, I remember the many prayer books which associate the virtue of Charity with the Visitation. When Our Lady received the message from St. Gabriel that she was to become the Mother of God, she also received the message that her cousin, St. Elizabeth, was expecting a child. The Mother of God, at the expense of her own comfort, set out to serve her cousin. St. Elizabeth's arms outstretched in this joyful expression, gives voice to her great happiness at receiving the loving charity of Mary.

Our Lady at the foot of the picture looking up at St. Elizabeth seems to say,

"I may be chosen to be Queen of Heaven but I am here to serve you, my cousin, in your needs. I am the Lord's humble handmaiden and during my time with you Elizabeth, I will be your humble handmaiden as well."

I see joy, charity and humble service.
