Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Aside from Scripture, of course, I've been thinking that we, as a family, need to read something in the spirit of Advent ... Do you gals have a favorite book to read together during Advent?

(I didn't put this in the literature section because it's more about a seasonal read ... Is that all right?)

I bought this book Destination: Bethlehem from Hillside at IHM in June. I read and reviewed it for mater-et-magistra and will DEFINITELY be using it this advent. It is a wonderful prep for Jesus' coming and is even broken into 24 chapters, so you can read a chapter each night. There is also a list of suggested "tokens" to put on a tree/hanging/altar/whatever each night for the chapter ... altho I'll tweak those a bit.

Here's a post I did a few years back about other books we read for Advent. Our favorites are books by a woman named Alta Halverson Seymour ... they're oop but worth finding ... where each book is about children in a different country and their Christmas traditions. The stories are wonderful and the kids (and I) love them.

Hope that helps.

Vee

Here is our list and be sure to check out Mary's list, there are a couple of books she has recommended that we read (and I've yet to add to our list) and were really worthwhile.

I was trying to look for some of the past suggestions. I know there are more threads - much of the Advent stuff is intermixed with the Christmas threads.

"This Way to Christmas"
Advent reading for Mom
advent books
Advent reading for a strong reader

I picked up this book I Saw Three Ships by Elizabeth Goudge (who is one of my favorite authors).

It would make a good read for the week before Christmas.

Woo-hoo and yippee, ya'll, for those wonderful ideas ... The hard part now is deciding which one to read. Yikes. :)
