Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Cousin Ruth's Tooth

This is a cute one about a little girl who has lost a tooth and her extended family's attempts to find it.

There is another one by the same author called "Rachel Fister's Blister"
that is supposed to be even better, but I haven't read that one. Off to look at the library site...

This is a very nice Thanksgiving book about the Pilgrims and Indians and their days of feasting.   Beautifully illustrated, in a fun rhyming verse.   A nice addition to our Thanksgiving and November picture books! New in 2008.

Bumping for fun (and because my mom is here again and wanting "all those fun rhyme books" to laugh at with her grand-daughters!

And, I just requested a few other books written by Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo. And, there is another Gruffalo book that I didn't know about: Gruffalo's Child!

Just read Karma Wilson's The Cow Loves Cookies this morning and thought of this thread.

Someone mentioned The Duchess Bakes a Cake by Virginia Kahl. We also really her The Perfect Pancake (OOP but at our library). Our library has a few others of hers that I just put on reserve to check out this weekend.

Bumping this fantastic thread with a new (old) favorite of ours:

Florina and the Wild Bird by Selina Chonz and Alois Carigiet

Absolutely delightful rhyming story about Florina and her little wild bird. Florina saves the little bird after a close call with a fox, and treats it with such care. The little bird returns her affection until one day, he indicates he is ready to be set free. Florina's tender release will delight as will the stunning illustrations of the Swiss Alps and all its natural beauty! The rhyming is beautiful and really quite rich. The book was originally written in 1953 in the German language, and was later translated into English by Anne and Ian Serraillier and the delightful rhyming story will not disappoint!

Lynley Dodd really is the best rhyming author on the market IMHO. I've gone out of my way to purchase some of her books full price (I almost never do that!) because we love them so.

Otherwise, our favorite rhymer is;

King Bidgood's in the Bathtub!

We got A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee as a gift, and this thread reminds me that I keep meaning to get others from the library. My boys really like it, and the illustrations are fresh and fun.

Also, my boys really like "Stand Back," Said the Elephant, "I'm Going to Sneeze.", which is one of my old books from when I was little.

Has anyone seen the Building Christian Character books by Michael P. Waite such as Suzy Swoof A Book About Kindness. Anyway, it is a rhyming series by Chariot Books Publishing with illustrations that my little ones just love!

Yes, now get into the world of Hairy Maclary!!!    I love her made-up words... I love the pictures... I love it all. If anyone wants a preview I think there are a few YouTube videos.

We like Each Peach Pear Plum (featuring nursery rhyme characters) and Peekaboo (about a baby and his family), both by the Ahlbergs.

Also second the recommendations for Jamberry and Piggy in the Puddle.

My kids have loved A.A. Milne -- When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six.

We also like Richard Wilbur's Opposites, though they may go over the heads of really young children. My 11-year-old eats these rhymes up, however.
