Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My plan for this past year was to look at the calendar every few weeks and plan for the next few weeks. Well, that didn't happen. I learned that if I want it to happen in the school year, it must be planned out in the summer.

Does anyone want to join me in planning our liturgical year celebrations for next year? I thought we could take a month at a time and plan all the way down to the crafts we'll do and any special food we'll eat.

I too would love to participate.

For many of the Feast Days, I typed up a document to help me plan for celebrating that feast day at home. Each feast day document includes the readings or explanation for the Feast Day, crafts, activities, decorations, picture books and food. I have about 15 or 20 typed up. I print them out along with any coloring pages, etc and put them in a 3-ring binder with month dividers. About a week before each new month, I open up the divider for that month and see what we will be celebrating.

I started typing up the documents because there were so many great ideas for the feast days and I needed one go-to place for all the resources and activities I wanted to do.

I would be happy to share these documents if anyone is interested.

I'm in, I want to do this too and was just thinking about it as well. I was thinking I would like to try and use a bit of Serendipity and do a World History focus next year and plan liturgical studies accordingly.

I'm in as well. We don't observe the Liturgical year as well as we should-it doesn't help that I can't seem to get myself organized. I have lots of reference and idea books, but am overwhelmed at times. I'd like to get everything organized and in one place, too!

Wow! I'm so excited to see so many people interested! I've decided to go with Sonlight next year so I can devote my planning time and energy to religion; gosh, it is the whole reason I homeschool, I should be doing better!

If you all don't mind, I'd like to start a new thread for each month to make the ideas easy to search for later. Since next month is June, would you like to start there?

Waverly, would it be easy for you to copy and paste your ideas into the threads or do you not have saved anymore?

I can see if I can cut and paste the information into a post. Otherwise, everyone who is interested can pm me their email address and I can send out the documents.

As of right now, I actually have an email list of around 20 women and about a week before many of the feast days I send out a reminder of the upcoming feast along with a handout detailing the ways to celebrate. I can add anyone who's interested to my email list - it runs all year and is in its 2nd year.

I'm not in detailed planning mode yet. I'm obviously totally not in sync with the majority of homeschooling moms! But it's so hard to keep away from my favorite subject.

I was going to give a few sources that I always use to start out my planning:

First, liturgical calendar.

ChurchYear.net, which has 2009 Liturgical Calendar. Also has a .pdf version availble.

USCCB Liturgical Calendra. Scroll down the page for the 2009 .pdf link. 2010 and 2011 is only available for purchase right now. This is a good calendar to have, because the Bible references are included.

Women for Faith and Family Liturgical Year 2009. This one you click by month, gives the color, readings, feast days.

For all around ideas from online sources, I check out:

Catholic Culture
Domestic Church
Women for Faith and Family
Catholic-Mom

Open Wednesday for preparation for Sunday readings. Unfortunately it only goes 2 weeks out at a time.

Food ideas make sure you check out Catholic Cuisine. The blog has now been around for more than a year, so you can find the tags for certain feasts, symbols, or foods and be able to build your plans around that.

There is a FAQ for liturgical year resources.

Funny that you should bring this up again. I just filled a filing box with new hanging folders - one for each month plus one for the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. I am starting with a calendar page at the beginning of each month with family birthdays-feast days-anniversaries (baptism dates, in particular) and then MAJOR feast days and holy days of obligation. I was planning on searching the archives for all the great ideas and links that have been posted here...
