I just sent this to Amy. Do you expert cooks think she could make it in the crockpot?
It is a great recipe. We have it for Christmas morning breakfast and Fat Tuesday dinner.
Overnight French Toast

2T corn syrup (We omit this and use maple syrup)
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 loaf french bread
8 eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon

In a small saucepan, combine syrup, butter and brown sugar until sugar dissolves. Pour this mixture over the bott on a 9x13 baking pan.

In a bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.

Slice bread into about 17-20 slices and dip into egg mixture until well coated.

Place bread vertically over the sugar mixture in the pan, pour remaining egg mixture over bread, cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake uncovered at 350 for 45 minutes.

Would the bread get a bit soggy in the crockpot? Just thinking aloud - it sounds like a yummy recipe! Not good for my diet.

I wouldn't make it in a crockpot. It seems like its meant to be more of a baking type thing rather than cooking, but I don't claim to be an expert.

The crockpot steams it. It comes out too cooked on the outside (next to the pot's sides) and too wet in the middle.Maybe it's just my crockpot. But I haven't had much luck with egg and sausage breakfast casseroles in the crockpot either. Just an aside, the times I've tried to make breakfast in the crockpot, I've awakened in the middle of the night hungry and smelling breakfast. But I'm not really a very heavy sleeper.

Mary Chris' recipe is wonderful though! My kids want it Christmas morning!

Making our French Toast casserole for Christmas morning is one of our favorite parts of Christmas Eve. I put it in the oven and it bakes while we start our morning.

I have a thermo-nuclear crock pot.

Any recipe that says 8 hours for me works in 4. I only use it on days I'll be home because of fear it will burn the house down.

How hard is this to clean? Does it become "part" of the pan forevermore?

Nope. Totally dissolves in hot water. Just don't burn it.
