Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We'll be having family and a few friends to the house after. I haven't figured out precisely what we're going to do because after I counted up all the people I got overwhelmed and stopped.

My Peter will be receiving his FHC on May 16 in CA.

We just started talking about having a small gathering of family and friends over to our (new!) house afterward. It is an 8:15 a.m. mass, so we'll do something brunchy.

Praying for all the children receiving FHC this spring. Please include my youngest son, David, receiving on April 26. This will be our first child who was able to have Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at our parish, as well as our home preparation, and he simply LOVED the class all year, much to my delight. The plan had been for a four day retreat (I was SO impressed that they told the public school that the children would be missing school on Thursday and Friday for the retreat. Then some parents complained so instead of starting with 8 am Mass and going all day, they will start at 1 pm, have no Mass, and go til 5. I am so, so sad about this, and David is very disappointed. Last year no one had a problem with it.) Anyway, there's an all day retreat Saturday, starting with Mass and a Daddy/child breakfast afterward. Sunday morning finishes the retreat and after a lunch in the hall, FHC Mass is at 1 pm. David is so excited.
I have been so impressed with the whole year. David had a hard time with the two hour length of class at first (lessons tend to be pretty short here at home) but I got to observe the hour-long extra sessions where the children heard a parable and discussed it, with really excellent observations and insights. I was so impressed with David's comprehension. I think David is really ready and has grown in closeness to Jesus this year. I'm thrilled with CGS.

My Mary will be receiving on a date TBD (have to coordinate with my brother the father). (Your CGS sounds awesome, Mary Alice).

I will keep all of your children in my prayers.

My daughter Hannah Marie is receiving her First Holy Communion this spring. I am working on her dress and I keep forgetting to bring her baptismal certificate to the parish...

We usually have our parties at a later date. It's a little less stressful that rushing home from the big event itself to host a party. Also we combine FHC and confirmation into one party in the years we have both.

Its wonderful to see families so excited about this joyful day for their children!

On April 26th, my son Nathan will be receiving his First Holy Communion. We are having a small family gathering at our home afterwards. The following weekend, my 16 year-old will be Confirmed at the 175th anniversary Mass of our archdiocese (Indianapolis), so we are busy getting things ready for both celebrations.

We will have a small party afterwards, but just some pizza and cake, nothing fancy. That's what he wants, which is great because I'm still worn out from Easter.
