Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have seen pictures and statues where Mary is treading on a snake that is trying to bite her, as in Genesis 3:15, "He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel." Does anybody know the name of this?

Thanks.

Nancy

Nancy ... here's an image like that. Our Lady of Victory. I went to a French grammar school in San Francisco ... Notre Dame des Victories (Our Lady of Victory) ... we had a huge statue in the front hall of this image!

I've seen some statues of Our Lady of Grace where she has a snake underfoot too.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! Patty - I was thinking it was a version of Our Lady of Grace, but then I wasn't so sure; Mary - it makes so much sense that Our Lady of Victory should be conquering that serpent, but I don't think I've ever seen an image of her before; I appreciate your broadening my horizons. And Rebecca - yes, I agree, both of these images of Our Lady are beautiful.

Peace,
Nancy
