Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

These posts on a CM/classical homeschooler acquaintance's blog were helpful (and just a bit convicting ) to me so I thought I'd post them here:

Memory TIps

Scripture Memory List

Poetry Memory List

I think the "every drop of water, every grain of sand" idea applies here.   A little bit done faithfully through the years really adds up.

I remember learning to read through the method she uses for memorization. After having memorized many "Archbooks" which are Bible stories mostly in rhyme, I remember the words just suddenly meaning something.

I liked that they memorize one text as a family. We work on memorization every day, but since my kids are so close in age it makes more sense to have them all learn one poem. I'll think we'll start that after vacation. Thanks for the tips!

Funny you should mention the Arch Books, Rachel; I grew up with them as a child and just recently my delayed 6yo Aidan astonished me by reciting a verse from one he hadn't heard in months

Interesting. Andrew Pudewa mentioned in his Good Communicator talk that memorization is a real brain grower and also enlarges your child's database from which they draw vocab and turns of phrase!
