Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is not a picture book, but it is a compilation of stories, histories, and other Thanksgiving delights and it fits so well on this Thanksgiving thread that I wanted to add it:

It's Time for Thanksgiving by Elizabeth Hough Sechrist and Janette Woolsey

We enjoy pulling it out every year! My copy is 1957 copyright. It contains a great variety of things related to Thanksgiving:

HISTORY
STORIES
PLAYS
POEMS (great for adding to seasonal poetry)
GAMES
RECIPES (most of these are easily recognizable, but a few were new to me. I do wish there was a little context or history given with the recipe, but there isn't.)

Love Mousekin!

There is another thread of the various versions of Over the River and Through the Woods.

Another Squanto book is Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving by Eric Metaxas. I like the Joseph Bruchac book better but this is good as well. There are some differences in the story. Need to research to see which is considered more accurate.

Also adding:
Pilgrims of Plimouth (Marcia Sewall)
The First Thanksgiving (Jean Craighead George)
Pilgrim Cat (Carol Peacock)

Thanks for all the suggestions! This is one area where I've been wanting to expand our collection. I may have just requested 30 Thanksgiving books from the library!

Found the cutest book in the "discard" section of our library and wanted to share it here just in time for next week.

Chester Chipmunk's Thanksgiving

Saw this one at the bookstore today: THe Mayflower (Mark Greenwood) - newly published 2014

Very simple text with vibrant illustrations. Tells the story of the Puritans coming to America on the Mayflower.

Ballons over Broadway

I am not sure how I missed this one for so long (2011 publication).

It tells the amazing story of Tony Sarg, who designed the first puppets and balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and how and why the parade came into existence.

Very interesting, great pictures, inspiring- Tony Sarg was a self taught artist.

An newly published one - just in time for this year's Thanksgiving. Very simple and sweet, fun illustrations and portrayal of family.
