Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What would you do with apples?

First, and only thing that comes to mind is applesauce.

I've seen some sort of canned apples in a sugary sauce.

What do you all do when your apples are ready for picking?

not that I have much.. but my most favorite thing is to can apple pie filling.. then I get homemade apple pie by making a crust and dumping the filling in and baking it. And it only has to bake long enough to cook the crust.. the apples are done.

apple sauce
apple butter
apple jelly
apple cider
dried apple slices
maybe apple slices in a light syrup for making apple crisp (apple pie filling is too sweet for that)

Apples are a good aditivite to cooking:

last night we made chopped up apples simmered in water while chopped potatoes and onions sauted in a pan ... combine the two and stir and it makes mashed potatoes with apples! It was great ... we left the apple skins on and it gave a bit of color to the pot.

We also make a cabbage and apple hot dish -- saute sliced red cabbage till soften, add apple chunks and saute until apples are softened just a bit

Apples sliced -- especially nice crisp/tart apples - are great in salads

I'll think of some more later ... we love apples around here and I'm doing the happy dance as the price has finally come down and the Macs are so good!
