Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My husband works for Loome Books and recently acquired for our family the five-volume The Church's Year of Grace by Pius Parsch. I've had my eye out for this since I first heard Jenn Miller talk about it at the Real Learning Conference last year. She has since quoted extensively from it in the recent Ember Days thread and I mentioned to my husband that it was too bad that Loome didn't have more since I know this is hard to find.

This morning he found a stash of about thirty sets in storage. Loome is offering Forum members the five-volume set for $50 with free shipping (MN residents have to pay sales tax, sorry!). To take advantage of the offer go to the quote page on the Loome site and enter all your information. For "quote/invoice number" type "Parsch".

I hope some of you are able to take advantage of this. My husband does not stand to benefit in any direct way from the sales of these books but I do think Loome is a business well-worth our support.

God Bless,

Susan

I just asked and it's fine to promote this sale on your blogs or to other friends who might be interested. The sale is on as long as supplies last. Loome would much rather have these books in the homes of families who are promoting liturgical life than languishing in their storage room!

Susan

Wow! This is so cool. I just spoke with Loome because I did not expect free shipping ... they are sending me to the books and the shipping is only $10.00! This is quite reasonable. Thank you Susan for letting us know about this.

I was just coming on to add the international shipping rate. My husband said, "We just sold a set to someone in Wales." I thought that was you, Carole! All international orders will be $10 shipping.

Also, he wanted me to add that all the books are in very good condition but some of them have battered dust jackets. The books will be sold in order of condition--the best ones first. But the books themselves are all very good.

I'm that I'm an authority, but I truly don't highly recommend a book unless I own it and use it extensively. This is a set that is frequently used in my house. Father Pius Parsch was an active member of the Liturgical Movement, that was trying to renew the Liturgy and really get the laity to understand the whys and whats of the Liturgy.

These are meditations throughout the Liturgical Year. Although before Vatican II and we have had a lectionary, missal, Breviary, and Calendar changes since these have been written, I find much of the information still applicable today. It's rich in meditation and factual information. I love the graphics, which we use especially during Easter time when we decorate our Easter eggs. There is stational church information, and information on the history and significance of feast days.

And I still love to compare and contrast. There are some continuations in our Liturgy that haven't changed, and I love finding those links and continuum.

Susan, are these are the same copyright date?

I do think this a good deal, because each volume is packed full...so you're getting $10 a book!

And can I just say I want your husband's job? One of my dreams is go to Minnesota and visit Loome someday. I have to admit I've always wanted to start a used bookstore, but stay very specialized. He has my dream job!

Oh, if you want more flavor of Pius Parsch, Catholic Culture has extensive quotes from him. Google the site:http://CatholicCulture.org Pius Parsch to pull up some quotes.

Just adding this lovely autobiography of Pius Parsch that I found to be very helpful in reading about the life of this extraordinary man!

I'll also add more of my personal opinion here. I have Dom Gueranger's Liturgical Year books, and I never use them. Compare and contrast, I find this series easier to read and more practical for me.

That's just me...I'm not saying one is better than another. I have similar series like Pius Parsch, and this is my preferred one.

Jenn,
I asked my husband about the copyright question but I'm waiting to hear back. I think he has a lot of peoples' dream job!

I asked my husband about the copyrights and I'll just copy his response below:

There are some copyright 1957, some 1962 -- I didn't find any others. As near as I can tell, the differences are minimal. I noticed, for example, that on page 175, there was a four-word difference of where the page break is. That suggests to me that he just cleaned a couple things up, maybe fixed a couple translations. One version is four pages longer than the other, but the last pages are the same.

I have to ditto that! Between recommended picture books and books for myself, I never lack for a wishlist!

And, yes, I too purchased a set! Who could pass up such an opportunity?
