In another attempt to take control of my life, I am reading:
The Total Money Makeover
The New Messies' Manual
The Oak Meadow's The Heart of Learning
I am also reading Newt Gingrich's Real Change.
I just finished Her Father's Daughter, so I am looking for another nice fictional work to curl up with at night.
Oh, and I need to pull out one of my stand-by spiritual books. I am needing something to refresh my parched spirit.
By the way, I am also de-cluttering, playing badminton and air hockey, scanning old photos, and nursing my sweet little guy while the kids read to me! So, off goes the computer!

Okay, it is really hard for me to read. I always feel like there is something that needs to be done around the house. So my list is not long.

and I would like to compare T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats with the musical Cats. I think that would be fun for my dd, but we may have to wait until we return from vacation.

I am re-reading (for at least the 5th time!) Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt. I have many books "in progress" but I just can't put this one down. I'll read Dicey's Song (the sequel) as soon as I am finished.

I'm reading
A Civilizatoin of Love: What Every Catholic Can do to Transform the World by Carl Anderson.
A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter
I got it from the library for one of my girls to read this summer, and then proceeded to read the first few pages and am now hooked. What a great book!
We are slowly working our way through The Fair American by Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth as a summer family read aloud. It's the third book in her "Sally" series.
And I finished a book I was pre-reading for my 12 yo dd. Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. I enjoyed those as a teen. It was entertaining, but I cannot see reading a ton of these with all the murder and all.

Isn't is a wonderful book?! I had never even heard of it and some list had it as a recommendation so my dd12 and I both read it. She would come in every morning and ask me how far I had gotten.

I have this book and read about 1/2 of it I think,
then put it down for something else. I'd love to hear how you like it. I do intend to finish it one of these days :)
I just finished Cold Sassy Tree I've had the book ever since my mom passed; it was one of hers I'd always meant to read and finally did. It was very good and very familiar to me, growing up in Ga (even though I lived outside of Atlanta most of my relatives live in rural areas)
What surprised me was a very Christian message near the end of the book that struck a deep chord with me.
I am just about to start Out of the Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis. I've been on a bit of a Lewis kick this year, reading his works and also biographies about him (movie Shadowlands and book Lenten Lands by Doug Gresham) I've never read his space trilogy - seems strange for Lewis somehow.
I recently read Left to Tell- I probably never would have picked it up if several people on this list hadn't read it first. Excellent, though disturbing obviously.

It's been ages since I read them, but they are quite thrilling and deep.
Since C.S. Lewis seems to be popular, I thought I'd mention a book my sister is finishing, Planet Narnia by Michael Ward. She says it's just fascinating.

Another Gene Stratton-Porter book. I really enjoyed this one, except the very overt racisim typical of pre-WWII era. Would have made the book a bit better if that wasn't there!

So please share what you think of the Messies. What have you tried/read before and what makes this different?
I think I'm a procrastinating perfectionist, also with a lack of perseverance. Not sure any approach will target those areas.

Well, I know you said it isn't fair sneaking in finished books, BUT Emily is reading it now and I am sharing the experience with her so does that count? 
I just finished and she is now reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.
She is really enjoying the book and I loved it. She keeps saying, "I can't believe that happened" or "That was SO FUNNY!" We both highly recommend this book.
When Emily is finished, my dh is going to read it, then Katie, and possibly Julia will read it. Then I am mailing it to my mother so she and my dad can read it before she passes it to my sister Terry.
Please keep Randy, his wife Jai (pronounced Jay), and their three small children in your prayers. Randy is dying from Pancreatic Cancer and his numbers have been looking really bad. He was posting to his website about every five to ten days but it has been four weeks since the last post.

I read all the Tillerman series quite a few years ago, but i don't think I ever did read Izzy, Willy, Nilly. (Guess I'm off to the library ! :-)

Oh! I've met the Swans...very fun and interesting people. Have you read Monte's book, Romancing your Child's Heart? It's one of my all-time favorite homeschooling books.
