Can anyone point me in the direction of websites that would have printable activities for the various saints of the day. I am trying to plan the next ten weeks of work and was hoping to find saints coloring pictures, word searches, crosswords etc I have been spending a bit of time google searching to no avail and then thought I really might be quicker coming here to ask Does such a site or sites exist? |

Erin,
I can't give a simple answer. I use books and Google and saved bookmarks. I haven't found a one-stop-shop yet, although there are some sites that do try. I look for both lectionary and liturgical year feast information. If I have time, I'll type these into this thread, but for now, I have lots of links under LitYrPrintables. Not all are printables or saints, but it's a start.
Resources for Catholic Educators has quite a goldmine of resources, not all sound, and it's hard to navigate. But that's a great place to get links and ideas.
Catholic Mom tries to cover all the bases, so that's another first check place.
Over time I've created bookmarks for the Liturgical Year, organized by month, then broken down by saints to save all the sites I find. There's just too many special interest groups to find all the links in one spot (such as sites dedicated to St. Nicholas or Our Lady of Guadalupe).
And then there are books I use for ideas...
I know my problem is that I'm always tweaking and wanting more, so I never finalize anything!

do you think maybe we could compile a shareable list? i've got bookmarks all over the place too (which i really need to organize) and if we could have a page or site that's dedicated to the purpose then we could all use it as a resource, everyone could add to it, etc.
just thinking ahead -- the format would have to be considered -- blog-style, by date, or calendar with links, or just pages of months?

This is an excellent idea! I could certainly benefit from organization.

You're the computer queen, Stef. I can't see an easy way to collaborate. Usually blogs can't allow other persons to edit other work. I don't like blog formats, just my opinion.
Del.icio.us is the best because it can be added and deleted and descriptions. I don't find multiple users, but if we use highly "specialized" tags we would be able to view all bookmarks with that tag. Still not the same.
I like organization by liturgical seasons, then months and/or days underneath the approximate seasons. A calendar with links might work except for changing liturgical seasons.

Thanks Jenn for the links, I'll be checking them out.
Ladies
I'd like to see it this idea work. I would have to agree with Jenn about a blog format, I think web pages lend themselves better to this sort of thing.
I have recently set up a website with google pages and they are VERY easy to negotiate (after all I am NOT a computer queen and I managed to set up this website without undue stress)I was able to set up several pages with ease and I think this would be a useful feature.
I'm unfamiliar with delicious, so maybe it would be doable too, I couldn't tell you if google pages had multiple users but surely if we had a joint password it would work. Alternatively you could limit the page loaders to a couple of ladies and others could email in word documents the information to be uploaded.
makes perfect sense.

That does make perfect sense, Erin. Like the ideas.
I was also wondering if there's an open source code available to use, like Wikipedia uses?

Another idea is use the forum for the rough draft and then piece together on some static web pages, like you suggest.

Jenn and Erin, I agree -- websites are easier to navigate than blogs. Although, blogs could also be set up to have multi-author capabilities, and pages used instead of posts -- organization would have to be by liturgical season rather than by dates.
I was actually thinking of del.icio.us, Jenn, but recently I heard of Blinklist, and I thought some of its capabilities may be more suitable
Let me know what you think
Here's delicious' version which I just now reread, and seems about the same after all.
I have an account at Blinklist but recently just started using del.icio.us again, so either way could work for me. I agree about the highly specialized tags.
We could also do a combo: webpages+delicious so that any specific notes, comments, suggestions we have on any of the pages we link to can be added.

I hadn't heard of Blinklist, like typing the name much more than del.icio.us.
But then I shudder to think of the idea of having "class" putting together a list of bookmarks. Is that what they are doing in schools now?
Off topic, sorry, but....

Wow, Jenn, you're way ahead of me -- I just checked your delicious list!!
LOL, my bookmarks are in firefox, in explorer, in folders on my hard drive, written on post-its, on an old website i used to publish, etc. I'm embarrassed now
Actually, I've seen a few history and science lists put together by public school students -- some of them are actually good, but probably not as picky as we tend to be here

Don't be embarrassed, Stef. I haven't even finished entering them, and most don't have descriptions, nor are they organized...lots of duplicates.

Jenn and Stef
Is delicious easy to use? Does it allow you several pages that can link to each other? I'm assuming it does.
As far as I can ascertain google pages isn't a multiple user set up so it would have to be a shared password.

It is super easy to use!! In fact I have the del.icio.us tool bar on my browser and I can effortlessly add links! Here are some of my del.icio.us links.
Here are two of my files in del.icio.us
saints
rosary
I am mrsL on del.icio.us

Somehow I missed this thread ... would it work to set up Google Pages with links to different del.icio.us files? I have no clue how it would be organised!
Erin, I meant to PM you ... did you manage the links in the end?

Thanks I did manage to get it to work. I'm pretty happy with the result and have lots more ideas.
I'd imagine you could set it up with links to delicious but would it be as visually attractive as a webpage with everything laid out on the page? Can you tell I'm a visual person? Another option to toss in is suidoo I first came across them when I saw this site
