Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Chicken Soup With Rice: A Book of Months

Maurice Sendak

My kids are not huge Maurice Sendak fans, so I had missed this one until recently. Very clever- so much fun to read aloud. It's another one that the kids memorized fairly quickly. Great for learning the months of the year.

Soup, Rice, Months, Calendar, seasons

Funny, we just read this one today!

At our library there's a video (Scholastic) of Maurice Sendak books. This one wasn't on it, but my kid's really liked his other ones, so we tried this today.

If it was winter, I'd make some of this soup!

My kids are Maurice Sendak fans. And esp. of this book. Ours is so old and worn but we still reread regularly. Usually followed by requests to have chicken soup and rice the next day :)

Have you read the Little Bear books (Else Holmelund Minarik)? The illustrations are charming and by M. Sendak.

We love this DVD version which has the books made into songs sung by Carole King. And we have the tiny books too. They are just the size for teething babies.

For as small as this book is....my children can find it lost between many books on a weekly basis!

Love it!
