Anybody else doing a BBQ for Memorial Day? What's on your menu? I need some inspiration, I haven't gone to the store yet (going first thing in the morning).

Chicken and sh*take kebobs with asian ginger marinade, grilled asparagus, and lettuce cups for making wraps. Yum!

We had ours yesterday.
Just the usual: BBQ ribs, corn on the cob, beans, salad, deviled eggs.

I giggled too...the forums automatically did it...when I laughingly told dh about it, he said maybe we should just call them poopie-taki mushrooms !

I feel uninspired to make anything since dh has to work. How lame is that? He works for the public schools. They get off every other politically correct holiday.

Tell us about your BBQs!
I ended up being totally lazy and we just went to WholeFoods and spent way to much $$$ and got premade stuff to grill. DD18 got a gorgonzola burger, my Mom (who is visiting) got a blue cheese burger, DH got a Buffalo steak, and I got a hawaiian-mango-chicken shish-ka-bob. The younger ones wanted hot dogs. We also grilled corn on the cob, (and I grilled a bunch of veggies to do hummus/veggie wraps tomorrow.) We have watermelon but we were all stuffed and never got to it
Then we played bocce ball in the backyard.
It was a good day.

Sometimes Americans use BBQ and cookout and grilled interchangeably. BBQ generally covers food cooked on a grill and picnic type foods, maybe eaten outside or inside. At least that's my impression. BBQ or barbeque by definition is food cooked very slowly at low heat, and hamburgers and hot dogs definitely don't fit that category!
But that's what we had at our cookout/BBQ yesterday. Dh decided in the morning to invite my family over, bought the ground beef, hot dogs and fixings. I made broccoli salad and potato salad, and we had chips, carrots, sausages in BBQ sauce (appetizer) and some store-bought cookies for dessert. It was a lovely day -- the children played and played with no fights, and it was nice to visit with my family. I am blessed...
