Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a recipe, but tips, well let's just say that dh does this a whole lot better than I do!

Combine in bowl:
2 c. unsifted flour
1 tsp salt
Cut in:
1/4 c lard or shortning
When particles are fine, add gradually:
1/2 c lukewarm water
Toss w/ fork till you have a stiff dough. Form into a ball and knead till smooth. You can then put into a greased bowl, cover tightly, and refrigerate for 4-24 hours. Let dough return to room temp before rolling out.

Divide dough into 8 balls or 10 if you want 8" tortillas. Roll as thinly as possible on a lightly floured surface or between waxed paper sheets. Drop onto a very hot ungreased gridle for 20 sec. per side, it should look freckled. Serve immediately, or allow to cool, wrap airtight and freeze or refrigerate.
***You can replace 1/2 c flour with cornmeal or whole wheat flour.

Mary G. had us all excited about making tortillas a few months ago! Rachel May has some great tips there.

I knew I should've searched, but I had a baby trying to dismantle the keyboard! Thanks Mary.
