Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Elizabeth (and Katherine) had recommended these chocolate gold coins to use for the stockings or shoes on St. Nicholas. I orded right away because I've been looking high and low for inexpensive dark chocolate (free of dairy) chocolate coins. I might not get baking done this year, but something will be in the shoes.

I also found these gold coins that are actually bubblegum, if you need to avoid the chocolate for other reasons (there are shared equipment warnings for nuts and dairy). This one is a bit more expensive because of the icon, but it's really nice.

One of these years I want to make my own gold wrapped candy -- maybe not make the candy, but wrap it myself.

Jenn, I too took Katherine's suggestion about the chocolate coins from Paidea -- the service was amazingly quick! At the same time I ordered the shrinky-dink Nativity icons to color and shrink .... very cool!

Oh yes. I was admiring those also. I just had to order some. Thanks for the tip on the Nativity Icons Mary. I ordered those too!
Now if they will get here on time.

I think that Costco usually carries them this time of year because it is also a Jewish holiday tradition.

I found our gold coins at AC Moore...an unlikely place I thought. Since I was there...I bought them!

Our Cost Plus World Market stores have the gold coins year round, though I'm not finding them on the website. Also not sure if they have a dark chocolate version or just milk chocolate.

The Costco ones are nice, but they are milk chocolate. I'm a minority for the need for dark...I'd totally go for Costco's versions in a heartbeat.

One thing I really like about the Paidea ones -- they have a mint too .... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE chocolate & mint!

I've never bought them for that reason (my kids are young, so the novelty factor wasn't one, yk?).

I didn't notice the others were dark OR mint. I am very tempted now, and I wasn't even going to do the coins this year...

We have used these shrinking icons for years . . . I heartily recommend them!! And the folks at Paidea are SOOO nice. They once made a huge batch for me to use at an Advent Retreat and got them to me in time!!! We punch a hole in the top before baking them so that they can decorate the tree. But they are most appreciated hung in the kitchen window where the light shines through them! They are nice (easy) crafts for the kids to make to give to people.
Blessings

St. Nicholas is going to give our kids gold dollars since they are trying to earn money to buy a "water pump for a thirsty village" through theFood for the Poor Gift Catalog by Christmas. No food allergy problems there and easily acquired.

I didn't order any chocolate coins, but I was inspired today to cut gold coins out of paper and write prayers said on them to include in a St. Nicholas card. Thought that might be a fun (and easy/quick) activity for others to try as an alternative to the chocolate! Could also include promised favors, etc...

Not weird at all. I think that gold coins are part of the Jewish Hannukah tradition and that's why they are widely available this time of year...
