Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We read two picture books today that are new to us.

A Thanksgiving Turkey is a story about a 13 yo boy who moves to his grandfather's farm w/ his mom. The grandfather & grandson are in pursuit of an old turkey for Thanksgiving. My sensitive son was so nervous the story end with the killing of the old turkey. That isn't how it ended....

The Memory Cupboard: A Thanksgiving Story was such a sweet book about a girl who visits her grandma for Thanksgiving Dinner. The girl accidentally breaks a gravy boat that her mom and uncle gave to her grandma when they were children. The touching part of the story is grandma isn't upset, but shares with her granddaughter her memory cupboard filled with other items that have broken over the years....and the memories each one holds. My children LOVED the story. My daughter, who I thought wasn't listening after hearing the book about the turkey hunt, moved to sit next to me while I read it. It was a wonderful story to explain how "things" aren't as important as people. Accidents happen...it matters how we react (hopefully, not in anger) to situations.

Both stories were wonderfully told and illustrated.

Michaela, We just read The Memory Cupboard last week during lunch. Funny that we had it checked out from the library at the time you mentioned it.
