I am looking for a family type readaloud.we have read heaps to date so I’m running out of ideas for something new.I really want a book that has a family setting,emphasis I have a ds(6) and ds(10) who would be listening but dd(16) also likes to “listen in” Here are what we have read in that line:
The little House series
The Mitchell series and Bantry Bay series by Hilda van Stockum
Eleanor Estes books
The Four-story mistake series by Elizabeth Enright
The family from one end street etc
Anne of Green gables
Misty of Chincoteague and sequels
Elizabeth Gouge’s children’s books
The Penderwicks

 All-of-a-Kind Family came to my mind immediately too!
My 9yo just finished reading Detectives in Togas (out loud to her 7yo sister) for a book club that they both attend. They both insisted that I MUST read it, and raved about it so much that their oldest sister is reading it now. The main characters are all boys, so I'd bet your boys would love it.
We also enjoyed classics like The Secret Garden and A Little Princess. Another beautiful family story is What Katy Did.

the four volumes of Howard Pyles' King Arthur books are probably the best family read alouds we have ever had. Such comedy and memories we have made. So fun!
Also, we highly recommend Around the World in 80 Days.
Looks like The Hobbit should make your list, too. 
I will see if I can remember others.......

We haven't read this yet...it's next for us...but Little Britches by Moody.
It is recommended in DeMille's TJ Education book.
I read the first chapter...sounded good...and the main character is a boy too.

Dh's family favorite was Cheaper by the Dozen.

How about Half Magic and others by Edward Eager. Also, Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome, Maple Hill by Sorenson, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (my favorite to read aloud), Little Britches, The Moffats. I have all girls so I don't know about boys, but my girls always enjoyed 'boy' books, too.

oh, and the Father Finn books: Tom Playfair, percy Winn and Harry Dee (TAN books, or other distributors) They are SO wonderful, and so Catholic for a change! There is a tense situation in each book, so I just edit them as I read (a murder in two books).....but do not let that stop you from reading them.........they teach in the most fun way, while entertaining. These are extremely high on all of my childrens' read aloud list. Great fun!

Thanks ladies for the ideas. Actually your lists reminded me of ones we'd read that I'd forgotten about(lol)We have already read: Little Britches(liked the first couple in the series best!),Five Little Peppers(has anyone read the sequels and if so are they as good as the first?),Wind in the Willows,The Hobbit,swiss Family Robinson, Half Magic,Moffats,Ginger Pye,Cricket in Time Square, Mary Poppins and sequels, Wheel on the School
we haven't read All of a Kind yet because I thought they might be too girly(are they)
Also its funny someone mentioned Cheaper by the Dozen cause that's what I turned too in desperation this week. Both boys really love my "abreviated" version(isn't it funny how in old books so often pages get stuck together lol!)and keep asking for more.
Now I'm off to check those Father Finn books and the previous post links you shared Mary

Most of the good titles have been mentioned here already but I didn't see anyone recommend one of our favorite read-alouds...A great favorite in our house was The Princess and the Goblin and The Princess and Curdie by George MacDonald...In fact, it's been a long time since we read these--six years or so...I think it's time to introduce the youngers to these!

You mentioned Anne of Green Gables, but have you read the sequals? The stories of Davy and Dora in either the 2nd or 3rd are really sweet. Then there is also Rainbow Valley which is Anne as a mother of many which is quite family oriented.

I second the George Mac Donald books
We have been enjoying Rosemary Sutcliffs books immensely the last year. (Some of the content is definitely older though).

Our favorite all time read aloud - and we've done it many times - is The Winged Watchman by Hilda van Stockum. The main character is a 10 year old boy. I loaned the book to my Dutch godfather and it really did sound like his recollections of growing up in Nazi occupied Holland. It is one book that kept all our ages riveted - and boys and girls both liked it a lot.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that book! And all the Hilda Van Stockum books we've read to date. 
It frustrates me to no end that my library system doesn't have very many (most) of her books.
