Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Any ideas for celebrating St. Gerard's feast day (Oct 16)?

We're in the midst of a novena that'll end on his day, but I'm looking for some ideas to make the day special for our family / my boys.

thanks!

Melanie

Hmmm...that's a toughie. Maybe some pro-life activity, such as collecting baby items to donate to a local crisis pregnancy center, since he is considered the patron saint of pregnant women.

I guess not many people try to celebrate his feast day? In case anyone else was looking for ideas, this was what I decided to do:

Have the boys sew small squares/bags. (He was apprenticed as a tailor at a young age to help support his family after his dad's death.)

Make biscotti (he was Italian, and I have a hankering for biscotti. LOL)

Place his statue on our kitchen table so he can easily be seen throughout the day (he usually stands on my dresser

Told a brief biography about him (my boys especially liked the story how he had been told not to perform any miracles without permission from his superior. A man fell from scaffolding while working on a building, and St. Gerard stopped him in mid-air while he went to get permission. Once permission was granted, the man gently descended to earth safely.)

I also told the boys how I prayed to him during each of my pregnancies.

what a great idea!!!

Just wondering--Colleen mentioned to me sat night about St Gerard's feast day today. But when I went to do my prayers this morning they did not mention him in the Magnificat. Does anyone know why
And where is the best place to go to find a complete list of the year with Saint's feast days????

Really like the ideas you shared!!

Not exactly sure, but it may have something to do with the General Roman Calendar being reformed.

I really like the Patron Saints Index. It is searchable by Topic (i.e. patronage), name, calendar, and a timeline.
