Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Seeing the interest in the favorite apple thread and the upcoming Loveliness of Apples fair I realized we don't have a specifically apple rabbit trail thread (though apples and apple study have been mentioned in a few other threads). I thought it would be nice to collect ideas here in one place since this is a pretty universal topic for fall.

This thread has the most apple/apple pie ideas - How to Bake an Apple Pie & See the World.

A couple years ago I wrote this unit study for Homeschool Share - Apples to Oregon. We love this book!

Another favorite apple book is The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree.

We also enjoy Apple Picking Time and The Life and Times of the Apple.

So what are your favorite apple related books and activities?

We really, really like the alphabet book illustrated by Gennady Spirin (I love his illustrations) A Apple Pie.

His book was based on A Apple Pie originally done by Kate Greenaway.

A couple of years ago, we read How to Make and Apple Pie and See the World. We went to the store and bought about 8 different types of apples. We came home and made a chart that covered color, texture, taste (sweet/tart) and something else (don't remember yet). We sampled all of them and then made a pie with the 8 different apples. My kids loved this chart idea.

We did an apple unit in September and the favorite book we found we , Apple Tree Christmas by Trinka Hakes Noble. You can find it on my blog here.
It is about a family's beloved apple tree and what happens when it is blown down in a storm before Christmas. We just all loved it, even though it wasn't near Christmas time.

For the K and under set, we enjoy tying in math by using Dr. Seuss' Ten Apples Up On Top.

I designed a little counting game with apple counters and cards (because I couldn't get the spinner to work). I copied and laminated the three characters from the book for 3 players. Draw a card with a number and stack apples on your character's head. First one to ten wins!

I also had a lapbook in mind, but we never did that. In it, I intended to have the life cycle of an apple tree sequencing cards, parts of an apple puzzle (copied on cardstock and laminated), a place to store the counting game, plus the FIAR Circle matching game for How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World.

Yesterday, I blogged about some books we've found for our current apple plan. Pretty fun stuff ... I'll post pictures of our apple dolls if they turn out

We enjoy reading The Apple Cake and following the recipe from the back of the book.

Another favorite is Apple Fractions since we can get some math in while taste testing various apples.

IN case anyone is still working on this, I just saw someone (graciegaith?) mention on another part of the forum the free apple life cycle pdf download at Montessori for Everyone. Nice color photos plus a chart for the life cycle. Perfect to include in a lapbook!
