Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our dear Lady is so good to me. She knew I needed some assurance about our choosen unschooling lifestyle. MY oldest dd was invited to participate in a Literature coop, at first I was hesitant. How will she measure up with her peers????   After the first couple of classes I was told that dd was doing great, she is was (per the teacher) more perceptive about the books than any of the other dc. My heart leaps with relief. I was worried over nothing. We have never done anything formal with writing or Lit.

Then we heard about a Latin coop, now dd is very social, "please mom can I go"? Same worries    She is past all the kids in her knowledge of latin!!!

I share this mainly because I am constantly asked "how do I know they are learning"? Well I trust and when the heat is on and I fear, my dear Mother rescues me.

Sorry for the shameful bragging, I am just so relieved, I thought others may need a boost with their unschooling as well.

THank you for sharing this, Molly. I've had one of those days when I wander in fear re: whether or not I'm doing "enough" and whether or not they are learning. Hearing things like this really helps me! Thank you!

We have been attending the Latin mass for several years, we love Gregorian chant and we learn our prayers in latin. I find etymology fascinating, so my dc get an ear full of my expounding    Really, I think Latin is very easy to unschool, we need it for our gardening and animal care. It weaves into our life daily. And dh being the medicine guy likes to talk anatomy     Then again we are odd

How neat, Molly     I am not surprised though, I don't see how your kids could ever fail to learn in a house like yours.

That's wonderful! We don't completely unschool, but my arty oldest is definitely my free spirit and constitutional unschooler. This year I'm teaching English for our high-school co-op (she's in 9th grade), and I had the same concerns about how she would measure up with the other kids, having had so much less structure in our four years of homeschooling than some of them have had. It is good to see that she can more than hold her own in English and Latin.

And we've been Latin unschoolers all this time, too. I think of it as "Latin Immersion," and also as "It's Not Dead Yet."

Anyway, congratulations! It is wonderful to see your efforts and convictions bear such lovely fruit.

Well, if I were ever to write a Latin curriculum, which I'm not about to, that's what I'd call it.
