I bought some of these clogs over the weekend after hearing how great they were for your feet and back. I bought the "Professional" style clog.
So, I know they're supposed to kind of slip off the back of your foot but it does feel weird. And they are heavy feeling and not really flat. Is this really normal? How long does it take to get used to them? The store said I could return them if I only wear them on carpet and they are re-sellable.

I'm having trouble 'breaking' mine it also, but I am atributing it to being used to being in my sandels and crocs all summer. They feel heavy to me also.

They are much heavier feeling than crocs and sandals, that's for sure! It took me a couple of weeks to break them in; or maybe for them to break me in! I just found that they forced me into a somewhat different way of standing than I do on my own. As a result I had some lower back discomfort and sore-ish legs. BUT I knew that the way they made me stand was better for me in the long run, so I stuck it out. After the first week or 10 days, I loved them!

Yes, they are going to take breaking in. I bought Dansko sandals, and any Danskos with the staples on the side are the traditional supportive ones, but heavy. I had the same break in difficulties as Nancy...but it took less than 10 days for me to break them in, but that's because I wear other kinds of supportive shoes.

Lisa, did you keep the Danskos or go with something else?
I pulled out my shoes for the fall/winter and they are too tight for my expanding and swelling pregnant feet--particularly the toe box. So with dh's approval, I went shopping yesterday and bought two more pairs of Danskos (because a girl needs shoes to wear with skirts AND with pants). My feet are happy! They won't be a waste, as I'll be able to wear them post-pregnancy, too.

I just ordered a pair of clogs from LLBean. I had a pair years ago (black, with a "back"), that I wore to the ground. 3 years later I still missed them  , so just bit the bullet and ordered them again. I do not normally wear heels of any height but these are just so comfortable. They are quite a bit cheaper than the Dansko ($59, + free shipping with my card). The sizes are a bit strange, you have to read that part closely to order the right size (I am normally european size 40 but for these it directed me to order 41, so after talking to them online to double check, I ordered 41, and it turned out right). Also the "collar" across the top of the foot is the slightest bit snug, so they might not work for a wide foot.
Anyway, I saw the "clogs" line and had to post !

Dansko Marcelle, the Mary Jane look. Last year I had these Ecco Mary Jane but they are a size too small for me now. I am so upset I made the wrong choice in size!
For pants, with socks pProfessional Oiled Clog.
Just note that both of these the back is not a snug fit...it's supposed to be loose, and you should be able to put your finger behind the heel. The purpose of the back is mainly to keep you from working hard to keeping the shoe on the foot, which you do with open back shoes.
The Dansko look has grown on me, and the Mary Jane looks ugly in the picture, but more flattering on the feet. The traditional Dansko is the stapled shoes...and all of these have the same design on the bottom, with different designs on top. I need these for my feet problems -- you might be able to go with the newer, more flexible line.
I have always like the clog look, but I don't like the look of an open backed shoe with skirts (although I did it this summer  ). Right now I'm not wearing tights or stockings, so I wanted something that can be worn barelegged and just some sockies or toe socks. I also live in a warmer climate...and fall temps haven't even hit us except for an isolated day or two.
I feel really frivolous for discussing shoes at such length!

I adore clogs. I have never owned a pair of Dansko clogs, but all of their shoes look wonderful. I could be wrong, but it looks like the purpose is to throw your weight into proper alignment. The cut of the toe is more dramatic than the flat-bottomed shoes we're accustomed to. That forces the calf muscle to work more, as well as the ankles, and probably the foot itself. It must feel like a bit of a workout at first!
Beautiful shoes. I might have to take the plunge!

Nissa, I just bought some Dansko professional clogs over the summer. I've been wearing them a bit now that it begining to cool off outside, and it is definely an adjustment at first, esp. in my calves. But I really like them now, and my lower back and arches are thanking me for them!

Hi Jenn! No, I didn't keep the Danskos. I just couldn't get used to them. I wish I could have though as I LOVED the look of them. I went with another pair of shoes at Euro Comfort and am very pleased with them. Thanks for asking!

I have Dansko professionals which I love. I usually save them for pants, too, but I really wanted to wear them, but wanted to wear a skirt, too, so I wore them bare legged with a denim skirt. I hope I didn't look too dorky. I figured it wasn't much different than wearing Hannah clogs with a skirt, which I think looks fine.
I like the Mary Janes, too, but I'm really short and I'm afraid they would make me look to childish. They are kind of chunky, though, so maybe not.

My dd bought a pair of the Mary Jane style Danskos. She is in graduate school and works as a waitress. I raved so about how great my Professionals are for being on your feet. Of course she, being 30 years younger than Mom, went for the Mary Janes because they are *cuter*. She got them at the Walking Company and had them properly fitted, but she has still not found them nearly as marvelous as I have found the Professionals. So I don't know -- maybe those Mary Janes aren't meant for the same uses or they don't fit the same way as the Professionals?

Interesting, Nancy. Are they the stapled Mary Janes? They are the same structure as the professional clogs, just a different upper. But no two feet or comfort needs are alike, so that just might be it! I know I rejected the idea of actually needing good shoes for my feet. I was in denial for a long time.

I have been wearing Danskos ONLY for the fall, winters and springs for about 5-6 yrs. I only wear dresses/skirts, so, I wear them with skirts just fine. I am pretty dorky anyway, so it would be hard to tell if they look dorky with skirts just by looking at me
Just thought I would let you know, you would not be alone.
BTW, my shoes never took any breaking in, either pair. They help me with the best posture. I never have tired feet wearing them, ever. I have a bad back, and it never aches with these shoes.
I want to get a black pair now, since I have a newer wardrobe with a lot of black in it.
To keep in mind, those of you who look at the price and say OUCH. These shoes will last a minimum of four years, and at the cost of about $25-35 a year, it is the same as buying a new pair of shoes each year. It helped me a lot when I thought about it that way. Personally, I do not wear anything else, anymore, except in summer or working out. I love my Danskos.

I think the pro clogs look fine with skirts, barelegged or not. I don't believe any of you look dorky.
And the Mary Janes...well, they are a classic look. They may look "younger" but classic feminine.

I love the way you think. It's so true. Sandals are usually the annual/biannual investment, but the sturdy expensive shoes do last a long time. Dh would like your financial breakdown!
