Life is swirling fast and furious here and I still don't have my plans in place for all my kids.
To help me clarify and narrow down what i want to do with them, I starting making notes. Just thinking 'out loud' here.
-The curriculum must fit mom more than the children. Her enthusiasm will carry the day and nearly any curriculum can be adapted for different learning styles.
-For us it works better to binge read one book over a couple of days than to drag out several books in several subjects simultaneously at a slower pace.
-It's better to plan fewer and higher quality learning activities than many short ones. That's where CM always tangled me up. The quick jump from one thing to another was hard on my children.
-Organize the finished work. The children enjoy reminiscing over their old projects or even workbooks. And you can look over them when you are feeling like a lame homeschool mom and see that you have accomplished more than you think you have.
-I would like to incorporate language arts into other subjects. I can do that if I'm top of things, but I'm only on top of things maybe 50% of the time. So I find CHC LA workbooks helpful for continued progress in those areas.
-I dislike teaching math so that's where I need to spend the big bucks, on a program that does it for me.
-Spending quiet time each day working with the 'learning to read' child is essential in getting them reading for fluency and independence.
-Liturgical activities are fun, enriching and memory building, we incorporate them whenever we can. But if I have to chose, it's better to get to Mass for the feast day. (Our priest has awesome homilies that the kids do listen to.)
Pray for clarity when the day falls apart.

Very good thoughts Bridget. Tonight I was planning to spend some alone time while dh is at a meeting to set out some goals- ones that made sense to my tired mind. I love the simplicity of your list- it will help me on my way.

Dear Bridget,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. On a night that I have spent online gleaning ideas from here-there-and-everywhere it is this list that I can most identify with. I found it quite affirming.
God bless you and your dear ones!
