Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm planning on preparing my oldest dd for Confirmation this year. Does anyone have suggestions for resources? She's 15. Our diocese usually confirms in 11th grade(she'll be in 10th), but I think we should have done this earlier. Has anyone had any experience preparing their children for this sacrament?

God Bless,

Ignatius press sells a good one,(I'm trying to find my copy to give you its name) also Quiz flip cards for catechism and the Baltimore catechism as well as 5th Grade Faith and Life. We have prepared one child ourselves and are in the process of preparing the next.

If you know what kind of bullets your diocese wants filled in, you can make sure you have done these kinds of things before approaching your pastor. We knew that our diocese wants a certain number of service hours. We didn't want our child doing service in order to fulfill a Confirmation Requirement but quietly observed and recorded what our child did. We had a little type written list of materials used, etc.

It is the pastor's responsibility to verify the readiness of the child so this helps save him time in his duty. We were referred from the pastor to the DRE but the pastor already smoothed the way for us so we had no difficulties even with a child under the normal age. There was an interview with the folks - we requested being interviewed by FR as he was one of the interviewers.

The resources we're using in our Catholic support group, which will make their Confirmation (including our oldest son) are:

Confirmation Preparation for Young Catholics by Seton
Confirmation Prep for Young Catholics

Firepower through Confirmation
Firepower through Confirmation

A Brief Review for Confirmation (out of print)
by Pauline Press

There are some great resources out there! Hope this helps!
