Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're having a small luncheon with my folks, my grandmother, and my cousin visiting from New York:

baked ham
bbq ribs
potato salad
pasta salad
baked beans
corn bread
lemonade

star-shaped chocolate cupcakes
popsicles

I had meant to get a Honey of a Ham, but as usual I left it to the last minute and this morning they had NONE left! So they talked me into a rack of ribs and I popped into Wild Oats for a small half-ham (3.5 lbs.). I'll bake them together tomorrow.

-steaks on the grill
-blueberrry crisp-we read a story about blueberry pie so the kids have been begging for it-figured it was as close to blue as I could get
-vanilla ice cream

We are going to a friends house for a largish party. I was told to bring pie. I made apple, cherry and Kentucky Derby.

Oh, its terrible but delicious. It tastes like a spiked candy bar. Everybody loves it. It has a butter crust on the bottom and then a layer of chocolate (from chocolate chips) and a filling which involves 3 eggs, more butter, brown sugar, white sugar, dark corn syrup, vanilla, walnuts and bourbon. Probably about 6,000 calories per square inch. A real "celebrating" kind of pie.

We are heading to a big picnic, including a clams on the grill. I have made my chocolate dunked pretzel rods with red white and blue sprinkles. Becky also made star cut-out cookies. Of course, they are sprinkled with red white and blue sprinkles.

I LOVE this pie! The bourbon gives it just the right "kick" -- and cooks out the alcohol leaving just the flavor .... yum!

We're going to my bro/sil's for a big party -- hot dogs, hamburgers and other traditional goodies. Dh helped me can 7 big jars of fresh cherry preserves ( ) today, so we'll bring one of those as ice cream topping (and of course a 5-gal tub of good ol' vanilla ice cream!)

Well, thanks to my son I have quite a bit of fresh-caught salmon left, so I believe I will cook that on the grill. In addition, I will do a spinach salad with tomatoes, feta, and greek dressing and we will have boiled eggs on the side. For dessert, vanilla ice cream with Alaskan wild berry topping!Yum!

We're attending a Pig Roast on the beach this afternoon, everyone brings a side dish to go with the traditional Cuban rice and beans and bread and plantains...I'm bringing Red, White, and Blue Fruit Salad (strawberries, blueberries and almonds) Then at 6 we'll listen to the 13th Army Band play on the White Street Pier and at 9ish we'll climb onto the roof of the barracks (no class in town this week) on Fm. Key and eat watermelon while watching the fireworks!

*Pasta with fresh roasted tomato and garlic sauce
*grilled broccoli
*corn on the cob
*a homemade ice cream cake decorated with raspberries and blueberries to look like a flag

There's a giant bowl of fresh cherries in a blue bowl for snacking all day. And we have chocolate-dipped strawberries and homemade cookies with strawberry-freckled lemonade for tea time.

Dh is grilling brats and hotdogs. I feel too queasy to make anything, so we will proabably just have a fruit salad and potato chips. Then we'll sit up on our hill and watch the citywide fireworks. I hate loud noises, so I like being faraway in our yard to watch. The kids did talk dh into a few loud ones for our own personal show, so I'll probably watch those from inside. I'm kind of a party pooper, huh??
