Could anyone suggest some activities or recommend any links or materials that mey help me bring this month to life in the context of the Precious Blood of Jesus for my dc's and our homeschooling. I have some ideas but would love to hear what anyone else may be doing or have to offer.
Thank you kindly
God Bless
Chemai

Chemai, I have a beautiful prayer book called, "The Precious Blood and Mother" It has come from The Sister Adorers of the Most Precious Blood in New York.
It is a MOST treasured prayer book with the loveliest prayers and poems. I am not sure if the sisters still produce this prayer book. So I have decided for the whole month of July I will blog everyday placing prayers and poems to share - you will really love them!
One suggestion for your older ones Chemai, is lovely copywork done by the children using some of the poems.
Do you have a fancy goblet? You could set up on the altar a cup and have some red, flowy material flow out from it and there you can attach the names of those you particularly wish to 'cover in the Precious Blood of Jesus' in this month.
Then in the cup, take some of the prayers that I post and type them onto red paper (petitions can be written or typed on this red paper as well) and the prayers can be placed in the goblet and a child puts their hand in each morning choosing out a prayer to read for the day.
I will try to get this going early for the children and if I do, I'll photograph it and pop it on the blog.
I am REALLY looking forward to this beautiful month!

Chemai,
A few ideas for you:
First, one of my favorite books for spiritual reading is St. Michael and the Angels, whose original title was "The Precious Blood and the Angels" (and which I think was also put out by the Sister Adorers--they must have a series). There are some wonderful meditiations about the Precious Blood in this book, especially in the first few chapters.
We have up in our Marian grotto this month a beautiful old holy card given to me by my grandmother of the Madonna of the Precious Blood. You can see a similar image here. It is a powerful meditation tool.
Also, there is a Litany of the Most Precious Blood. I would think a litany might be good fodder for discussion for you and your children.
What a devotion this month has! I'm interested in reading others' ideas.

Wonderful, Anne!
After seeing this thread last night, I pulled out to read a book I picked up at a used book sale this spring, called The Story of the Precious Blood by Rev. Joseph F. Stedman (the former director of the Confraternity of the Precious Blood). It was printed in 1932, only has 3 color pictures. I wouldn't say the prose flows easily, but it is beautiful and inspiring little thoughts. I was mostly captivated, because the illustrations are from the paintings, sculptures, altars, and more of the Monastery Chapel of the Cloistered Sister Adorers of the Precious Blood in Brooklyn, NY.
And this is the same order you linked above, Anne! The Confraternity's pages seem to give a little history about the monastery. I have spent too much time trying to find out in vain if the 1910 chapel structure still stands, and is it as beautiful? There is supposed to be a relic of the True Cross in the chapel, also.
And as I was searching, I found a [rul=http://familyfeastandferia.blogspirit.com/archive/2007/06/30/precious-blood-and-ade-bethune.html]connection with Ade Bethune[/url].

That book sounds like a fantastic find Jenn. The little manual I have gives some history of this order and I have seen them once, on Mother Angelica Live. They are praying for the beatification of their founder, Rev Mother Catherine Aurelia of the Precious Bllod (Aurelia Caouette) who was born in Canada.
I really love their habit, you look at it and think, "The Precious Blood!" they are 'covered' in the Precious Blood of Jesus!
I think there is a great need for the flourishing of contemplative orders dedicated to the Precious Blood.

That was one of the quotes in the book that struck me. Emphasis mine, but I had to leave it context:
Leaving all, to do all, for all...this is the life of the Sisters Adorers:
as Veronicas, to help ease Christ's sufferings caused by sin...
as Simons...to help mankind carry life's crosses...
as lives dedicated to our Lord's Precious Blood, to atone for the world's sins by their sacrifice.
A bells sounds through the corridors of the cloister...It is the hour of midnight...and as the chime floats echoing back, it brings with it
a flow of blood-red surging down the corridor...
In the bleeding red of their habits, the Sisters go in procession to the Sanctuary.
"O Father if it be possible, let this chalice pass from Me"...
They keep vigil with Him in His Agony as when His Blood poured in that garden 1900 years ago.
He must be spared the pain of that reproach:
"Could you not watch one hour with Me?"

Sadly, it seems their order is dying out. The monastery in Lafayette, Indiana had to close.

That is so touching.
If I were a young girl discerning an order, that would really tug at my heart!

Oh that is sad about the closure. I wish we had an order like that here in Australia....
Also I made my first posting for the feast today (it is the 1st here in Australia) and I have mentioned another craft activity for the children that involves the idea of reparation. Because I've been thinking about the scene in The Passion movie where Our Lady and Mary Magdalen wipe up the Precious Blood..

Here are some beautiful prayers for this special month!
A Powerful Prayer To Be Said Before Praying
"Almighty Father, I place the Precious Blood of Jesus before my lips before I pray, that my prayers may be purified before they ascend to Your divine altar."
--St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi
Precious Blood Prayer in Response to the Requests from Our Lord
Dear Jesus, moved by an impulse of Love, and with purity of intention, I wish to cover my humble labors with Your merits and bathe them in the supernatural gold of Your Precious Blood. I desire to consecrate my life to the savingof souls and the extension of Your glory, and I bed the Heavenly Father for as many souls as You shed drops of Blood during Your Passion.
--"I have many hidden sould who in the humble labor are very useful workers in My vineyard, for they are moved by love, and they know how to cover their deeds wtih supernatural gold by bathing them in My Blood...You should clothe your actions in My merits, bathe yourselves in My Blood, and consecrate yoru lives to the saving of sould and the extension of my glory." (Our Lord to Sr. Josefa Menendez)
--"Ask My Father for as many souls as I shed drops of Blood during My Passion." (Our Lord to Sr. Mary of St. Peter)

Hello! I was so inspired by this thread and by aussieannie's blog posts on this devotion! My kids and I made a chalice out of paper mache and put prayer intentions written on red paper inside it, to pull out during prayer time. Here is a link to my blog with pictures:

Thanks for the inspiration!

Dear Anne,
Thank you for your beautiful idea. I will try to implement it this coming week - a little late, but better late than never! I have a lovely clay chalice that I could spray gold but I kinda like it the way it is. It looks a bit medieval. Our car has been broken down for the last few days but dh got it back on the road yesterday with out a really large expense - Thank you God.
I want to buy a piece of shiny red satin for our cloth to represent Christ's blood and some ribbon also. It will be nice to finally get going on this beautiful project.
God Bless
Chemai
Also thank you Betsy for the Dedications List. I have printed this out and decorated it to place on our schoolroom wall as a constant reminder for us all to focus on these particular feast titles and special days’ through the weeks and up and coming months.
God Bless
Chemai
