Kevin is out of town and Maria has had stomach flu for two days now. She is pretty dehydrated. I took her to urgent care and was there for two hours before they told me they don't do IV's there but she needs one. So they sent me over to the hospital. My SIL was at the house with the kids but I knew she had to leave. So I went home instead of the hospital to try to get a hold of Kevin. I haven't yet. I can't just leave the other kids alone all night. Please pray that I can get fluids to stay in her so we don't have to got o the hospital.

I know this sounds crazy but it works for me every time. My mother had nine kids and she knew a very wise old pediatrician who advised her to help her kids stop vomiting with "peach juice". You simply buy cling peaches in HEAVY syrup and give only the syrup to your child in a medicine dropper (about a teaspoon) just after a vomiting episode. Let them rest without moving. For most of my kids ( I have 8 of my own now) this works and the vomiting stops altogether. For some kids with jumpy stomachs it at least puts several hours between vomitings (as opposed to ten minutes) and gets them on the road to recovery. The high sugar content of the syrup breaks the nausea cycle and is easily absorbed by the stomach. Let the child rest about 2 hours without vomiting before trying a popsicle or something. I have even used it on myself and it WORKS! I can't tell you how many times I have driven bleary eyed in the early morning hours to get a can of peaches at the grocery store. It helps to keep them in your pantry for just such occasions. My sister also has great luck with it. But, of course, an IV might be necessary and rehydration would work wonders, too. I'll have to try it. i just got a little applesauce with carob powder acidophilus in her. If that stays in it should help.
