Sorry I'm a little late!

Oh, Amy!!! You dear!
The children and I studied Clementine years ago. We were also lucky enough to visit the plantation home where she worked (Melrose Plantation near Natchitoches) and heard the story of the her life and got to see 4Real Clementine paintings.
That was almost 10 years ago. I have pictures of me with my mother and grandmother and Kayleigh walking the plantation grounds. I was big and pregnant with Chelsea. You know what that means don't you?
It means I get to rediscover Clementine Hunter with my younger two girls. Thank you, Amy! I didn't know anyone outside of Louisiana was familiar with her work.
She painted on everything...walls, window shades, wine bottles, milk jugs...
She also painted the men smaller than the women because she felt (though her experience) that women were better than men. The less she thought of a person, the smaller she painted him.
You'll notice all her angels have their hair stuck out straight behind them in a point. When asked why she painted them this way she said because they were flying and the wind made their hair stick straight out(of course) .

Amy!
This is so great! What a wonderful artist for the dark and dreary month of January! I've put "Talking With Tebe" on hold at my library and added several of her works to our screen saver. I am so excited!

We've just read through "Talking With Tebe" and it is WONDERFUL! The text is all transcribed from various conversations with Clementine (rhymes with "mean") Hunter and you can almost hear her talking. The way she describes things is laugh out loud funny sometimes, very poignant other times. She also describes some of her paintings and what she was thinking when she painted them.
I was just going to read a little to the kids, but we loved it so much and it was such a quick read, very engaging, that I just read it all the way through.
I wish there was a tape of someone with a Creole accent reading this. My Creole is non-existant, to say the least.

That looks like a great book, Marilyn. Any other ideas for children's books?

LOL, you cracked me up. People are always calling me Melissa instead of Michelle, but Marilyn is a new one.

Oops, I know a Marilyn who I refer to as Marilyn W. and for some reason must have been thinking that when I posted - good thing you know who you are. And who I actually get you mixed up with on the list is MichelleM. who is an IRL friend here so I always double check which of you it is in posts.
Blessings,
Mary (or just call me whatever you want!!!!!)

I was really not in the least offended. It just struck my funny bone (and it still does), I have no idea why. Call me hormonal, but I am still giggling. I hope I didn't offend you by noticing. Whoops, I didn't even think of that. I'm so self-centered. I'm sorry, Mary. People are ALWAYS saying that I remind them of someone, or they confused me with someone because I have a familiar face, and it just cracked me up that I still have this uncanny ability without even showing my face.

Updating to add a newer picture book we just found. It was well done and illustrated in the style of Hunter's art.

Her art reminds me of Grandma Moses.
