Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've mentioned in other posts that dh uses a wheelchair since removal of a benign spinal tumor many years ago when he was only 23. He did his post-surgical rehab at Craig Rehab Hospital near Denver.

We've been on the waiting list to get there for a week so their staff can give Ed a "tune-up", and our week is approaching in Jan. (don't want to post our exact travel dates on the internet but I can pm folks) I'll admit I'm anxious about driving on I-70 if there is ice like today (Chari, you only had a near-tornado where I'm talking about!!). We're taking the 4 youngest with us (17 y.o. goes to school and is staying with friends), as they have guest apartments attached to the hospital.

Are there any 4real families in that area? If so, would you pm me? I need to know some good roads to take if the weather is bad, where to find groceries or an inexpensive but healthy place for us to eat nearby, where to take the kids for fun, what's cool to see that doesn't involve wretched traffic, etc. If you live near Craig or are familiar with the area, would you let me know?

I'm so excited about the possibilities that this visit may really help Ed, who has been dealing with some increased stiffness lately. He's part of the first generation of folks with spinal injuries who have survived (he's 55, and they gave him a 5 year life expectancy when he was 23) and no one really knows how people age with spinal injury. If any place has the expertise to help, Craig Rehab does, I'm sure. I've just never been there (or to CO, for that matter.) Honestly, I wish we had our appt in the spring when weather is better, but this is it. We have to take it or leave it.

Thanks if you can help,
Mary Alice in icy Kansas
