Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone recommend some AP books? We've been attachment parenting since our second child was born, but we've learned about it from a few friends we've had for about 15 years.

I'd like to be able to go and read about it, when I'm not able to call on them for advice.

Any suggestions?

So Ruth are you looking for books that are geared for parenting a baby/toddler or parenting the older child with this style?

In spite of some of the opinions that have been going around about him, I really recommend Popcak's Parenting with Grace.

A good book on gentle discipline is Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline.

I also really loved the book Our Babies, Ourselves.

I have been meaning to read The Continuum Concept for quite some time - anyone here have thoughts on it?

Ruth,
I have read the Sears' books and recommend them. Also, I am reading Ross Campbell's book How to Really Love Your Teen . It is wonderful and seems very much like attachment parenting for teens!

I guess I'm looking for a book for older children. I never knew there was a name for this kind of parenting. Thanks for all the links. I'm going to look into them.

I really liked this one as well. It's kind of like a smorgasboard of ideas for disciplining children from an AP point of view.

Ruth,
Hold on to your Kids is a great book that addresses why kids need to stay firmly attached to adults through childhood and the teen years instead of becoming so immersed in peer culture that the peers become more important and influential. The author is a huge proponent of homeschooling through the teen years and asserts that homeschooled teenagers have an advantage over the long haul.

I'm going to look into that also Elizabeth, thanks for the recommendation. I also enjoyed Parenting with Grace, despite my, um, 'issues' with Dr. Popcak. I'm needed to work more on figuring out what AP means to me with my older kiddos.
