I am missing some picture books featuring these states. I know the lovely books in the Discover America Alphabet series have been mentioned often but I'm wanting other picture books that take place in certain states. The book doesn't have to be about the state, but must take place in the state and be a picture book.
I'm missing:
Alabama
Arkansas
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Florida
Michigan
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
New Jersey
New Mexico
Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota
Utah
Washington
Wisconsin
The book can also be about a famous historical figure from this state.
Thank you.

Cay, In addition to the Discover America Alphabet series, its publisher - Sleeping Bear Press- has a several books called The Legend of ... which retell Native American legends about the state. There is one for Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio if you are interested. Most of the Sleeping Bear books cover a specific place or event so I have others included in this listing.
Danelions
Love as Strong as Ginger (as I recall this is set in Seattle but not positive)
Salmon Forest
The Raft
Dirt on Their Skirts: The Story of the Young Women who Won the World Championship
Edmund Fitzgerald: Song of the Bell
The Legend of Old Abe: A Civil War Eagle
The majority of the Patricia Polacco books are set here
Orange for Frankie
Mrs. Mack
Trees of the Dancing Goats
Thundercake
The Log Cabin Quilt
Friend on Freedom River
Mackinac Bridge: The Story of the Five Mile Poem
The Legend of Sleeping Bear
The Legend of the Petoskey Stone
Mother Bear’s Tears (combo of the two above stories)
Edmund Fitzgerald: Song of the Bell
Ellington is Not a Street
The Legend of the Cape May Diamond
White Socks Only
Goodbye Charles Lindberg
Going Someplace Special
Wind Flyers
Hold the Flag High
Circle Unbroken (and Georgia)
Let Them Play
The Story of the H.L. Hunley and Queenie’s Coin

Ten Mile Day: The Building of the Transcontinental Railroad
When the Shadbush Blooms - haven't seen this one yet but it looks good. The Delaware Indians lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York so could be for any of the states though it sounds like the current descendants are in PA.

Cay, more like an obsessive nut!
If you can't tell, one of my favorite things is thematic listings particularly of picture books and related resources. Do you still need more? - I'm happy to help and will keep looking. Just went with the ones I'm familiar with. Now can start looking for unfamiliar ones since we do have a great library system to check. Are you making a personal listing or a resource that will be used elsewhere? Will we get to see the finished listing?
I also liked the list Jenica linked. But I do wish that those type lists would specify the type of book or list them separately by genre. Homeschool Share also has a picture book list by state, but it's not complete (only links to the ones they have units for) and there is also one from Alicia at Love2Learn though it is mostly chapter books.

There is a great unit study on how to teach the 50 states by using picture books. It's called Simply...Stated. I'm using it with my daughter and she really enjoys the picture books. The authors have also written a book called Simply...Presidential.

Washington: a real favorite with the locals is Wheedle on the Needle. We still point at the blinking red light and say "There's the Wheedle!!!"
