Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What date did you finally take the plunge and join the 4Real board?

The date you joined is listed under your forum name in the left column. For me, I tried to join many times before I actually logged in. (I had an older computer with fussy security settings which wouldn't let me register.)

Here's Catholic Forum's calendar of saints

Check your date and find out which saint accompanies you to the board!

(Mine is St. Francis Xavier, a long time favorite saint of mine and patron of the missions.)

Helen, your patron is lovely and very appropriate. (he is in fact a patron of Australia too, due to his missionary work, you often see his statue with St Therese in Australian churches.)

Well....my day is 21st of May and the only saint I recognise is Eugene de Mazenod.....patron of dysfunctional families...... ...I'd like to think we are not that!!!

So in frantically trying to find something to relate to in this saint... I found this: Eugene de Mazenod, publicly endorsed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, and worked for its promulgation.

He also founded a new congregation, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate founded on his core of missionaries.

That sounds better!

There is a whole slew for my date, July 22:
    * Alberic Crescitelli
    * Augustine Fangi
    * Dabius
    * John Lloyd
    * Joseph of Palestine
    * Mary Magdalen
    * Meneleus
    * Movean

    * Pancharius
    * Philip Evans
    * Plato
    * Theophilus
    * Wandrille

Several I had never heard of, including John Lloyd and Philip Evans two of the "40 Martyrs of England and Wales". A couple, Mary Magdalen and Joseph of Palestine are patrons of converts, which I am!
This was very interesting, Helen!

Lots for my date, too - January 28. I'll pick St Thomas Aquinas from the list, though - I'd like to ask him to pray for me for wisdom....

I joined Nov. 4th, the feast of St. Charles Borromeo. I don't know anything about him I just read he is the patron saint of stomach ailments. My husband and all our children suffer from several different stomach problems, some severe. He is our new patron saint

Great thread! I've just learned something new.

These are the ones listed for November 25th:

Adalbert of Casauria
Alanus
Alnoth
Bernold of Ottobeuren
Conrad of Heisterbach
Ekbert of Muensterschwarzach
Elisabeth Achler
Erasmus of Antioch
Guido of Casauria
Imma
Jucunda
Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi
Maria Corsini
Mercury
Mesrop
Moses of Rome

I really haven't heard of many of them, but I am inclined to go with Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi and his wife Maria Corsini, based on this quote from Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, prefect of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints: "[They] made their family an authentic domestic Church, open to life, prayer, witness of the Gospel, the social apostolate, solidarity with the poor, and friendship."

The other one that I have an affinity for is Jucunda, because my oldest daughter's name is Jacinda, and that is pretty darn close!

Awesome thread, Helen. Thanks!!

January 28th--St. Thomas Aquinas!

A very important saint in my life ever since childhood. (Also a patron of my son's for last year.) I'll need to tell the story about him one day!

Great thread, Helen. Nice sharing a patron with you, Leonie!

There were quite a few on mine for July 20th but the one I loved was Maragret of Antioch. They tried to kill her by burning her in a fire and then boiling her in a cauldren of boiling water. Each time she was unharmed so they finally beheaded her. She is the patron of pregnant woemn, against sterility and for expectant mothers. I guess that is why I am soo fertile?!    She is watching out for me!!

My saint is St. Scholastica, twin sister of St. Benedict. It is quite a coincidence because I just got the book-The Holy Twins-By Kathleen Norris and Tomie dePaola.

Well, apparently I joined on 24 April, but none of those saints jumped out at me.

My first post was 14 August, the feast of St Maximilian Kolbe. I'm extremely devoted to this saint.

This is a very interesting website you've shared, Helen. My saints, January 28, include Charlemagne and Odo of Beauvais. We are doing Medieval History this year, and I am at present not getting too favorable a sense of Odo. I'll have to get to know him better, I guess.

Of the 37 mentioned, I feel partial to Thomas Aquinas. I once wrote a paper for which I extensively used his Catena Aurea, a commentary on the Gospels. It gave me chills to work with the book, as it was the only *circulating* copy available in English at the time (in the U.S., that is). It had been printed in 1848 and was sent to my college library on inter-library loan (I was allowed to work with it only in the library). Iganatius Press has fairly recently published this in English, so now it is much more readily available.

Anyway, I have long been an Aquinas fan and was tickled to have this connection to him.

Most of the other saints I have never heard of. It will be interesting to try and get to know them.

Peace,
Nancy

I joined July 26. Lots of saints listed, but mainly Ann and Joachim (a name I have considered giving my next son, should the Lord bless us), parents of Our Lady. How wonderful!

There's a gazillion French Revolution martyrs on my date, but I don't have any French roots...But I recognized St. Basil the Great!

Fun looking at new saints - thanks Helen!

Sorry. DUH!!! I looked up my birthday! How egocentric is that!

Now I've gone back and looked at the date I started on the 4Real Forums. Lots of wonderful saints to get to know there! The only one I *know* so far is Our Lady of Peace. Interesting, since that is kind of part of my signature.

Peace,
Nancy

How did you know the date of your first post?

Maryann, are they the French revolution saints who died the slow death on a ship?
Sounds bizarre, but I can relate to them!
