No, seriously, I don't mean to be a party pooper, Courtney. It's my weird sense of humor. I just don't like sand in my sandwich.
My family hits the beach every summer but it's just for the day.
I love the beach hotel part. Are we talking Galveston?
I'm a camper as long as dh is there to fix all the problems that arise.
My dh's side has a family camping trip every spring and fall at Toledo Bend. It's a state park and super nice. And they have activities for the children. And where Marcie lives in New Iberia there's a lovely little campground (which I can never remember the name to) right on Bayou Teche. We went one year and toured Avery ISland and Jefferson Island and Shadows on the Teche. It's beautiful.
I talked with Natalia a while back about setting up a camping trip down here and we never carried through on the plans. Guess between Texas and Louisiana there is enough of us to roll up our sleeves, huh?
Better open a separate thread...

Oh, hon, it wasn't your fault.
Email is a tricky thing and not a perfect means of communication.

Yes, Chari, I'm feeling much more significant now
And yes, camping in skirts was a hoot, especially when they were covered in dirt....Oh, those good ol' days of camping, only 5 months to go!!

I go to church with Amie. So I have met her a few times. Plus we are in the same homeschool group.
So I pretty much see her everywhere.

Today I met Angela and her family!!! We were able to meet them in Boston this morning before they left for home. (Saying prayers for their safe journey home!)
Angela, it was so great to sit and "catch up" with you - wish we could have spent even more time together!

Dawn, it was great to meet you, too! My kids kept saying all the way home how they wished your boys lived closer... I'm sure they wished they had an extra hotel lobby handy, as well so they could play Toontown some more!
We made it home just fine, and now everyone is looking forward to our next trip to Boston.

I'm afraid that I'm with Cay.
I've spent too many gorgeous days on beaches in Florida to get excited about camping on a beach in Texas where I can't see my toes when I'm ankle deep in the water.
Did I mention that the last time we went beach camping in the Gulf I was severly stung by a Man-o-War and the high tide started to drag our pop-up into the water, waking us in the middle of the night with unexpected movement that resulted in the scurrying of alarmed adults to MOVE THAT TRAILER?? Not to mention the sand, sand, sand in every sandwich, tent, my long hair... Ah, the sweet memories of childhood. We did collect some really cool shells, though.... which is how... i got stung by the Man-o-War...
So... how 'bout a nice lake? Only let's not do Lake Raven (Huntsville State Park, TX). They have alligators there who like to go into the roped-off swim area to bite people's flippers... Ask me how I know.

1. stef in PA (now OH) introduced me to the board.
2,3,4. went to Donna Howey's CCM workshop while in Lewisburg and met MacBeth and Michelle Q.
5. at the time was neighbors with Mary Ann momtomany
6. met Victoria once we moved to AZ (after she had helped me with the move!)
7. met Laura in AZ through local group.
8. met Katy with Corp of Re-Discovery when she traveled to a conference here.
9. met Margot Helene in PA before either of us was on this board (how cool is that, her working with Cay now!)
10+. have talked with a few moderators
Now, if I can just get together with the San Diego crew and the west coast camping...
My other Catholic hs support comes from local friends I've met through our local Sacred Heart Home Educators group. I still remember the days of feeling very isolated in my hs beliefs and dreams and am so grateful for this community.
Love,

I'm about to meet Chari. And I've almost called Jenn. I guess almost doesn't count. And about to doesn't either. Hmmmm ... I'm at zero here.
The only Catholic homeschoolers I know are MODG and oh, what's the other one? OLG users. They're a little stiffer in their style and what they expect ALL of their kids to be able to do at a certain age. I spoke with one set of parents (the OLG folks) of a girl who is what they call *young* for her age. She's 9 and still likes picture books. Yeah ... so do I. They said she's lazy. I suggested that perhaps she has a different learning style than her sisters. Have you tried reading aloud? Having her use her hands? *Anything* creative? "No," they said, "she's just lazy." Zero flexibility.

Hmmmm...and I'm wondering why you didn't call? Pretty please, do anytime! It's easier for me to rein in the one young son and take calls. Come on, pretty please?

I don't want to brag - but I just met Elizabeth!
I went to take a seat at a George Mason basketball game a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a mom with a sling behind me. I don't what made me turn to take a closer look at them but I recognized those children right away! (They are even more beautiful in real life if you can believe it and Karoline's cheeks! it was all I could do to resist grabbing them )
I am quite shy, but how could I not say hi to Elizabeth after reading her column since day 1 and meeting her here?? I'm glad I did - it was great meeting you Elizabeth!!

At a camp out a few years ago I met Chari, MacBeth, MaryChris, Elizabeth and Katie. At conferences I have met Kim and Michelle Q a couple of times. JennM met with me in Manassas. I also met Laureen and Lissa in Staunton, VA. Is that all? Janet (ALMom) and I are in the same homeschool group but have never met, only e-mailed! It seems to me that I met one other person from Florida and we had a lovely conversation, but I cannot remember her name. It was at the NACHE conference a few years ago.
Now that I am in the south, Catholic homeschoolers are few and far between, let alone 4-Realers. It is a struggle at times. Also there were a few conferences near us where we used to live. Now there is the one in Memphis, but that is 4 hours away! I'm still thinking of going, but don't quite know how to swing it yet.
God bless,
Kristen in TN
