In honor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, I'd like to share this recipe:
Hungarian Braided White Bread
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 3/4 cups warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1 egg yolk
2 eggs
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 egg, beaten
In a small mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let stand until creamy, about 15 minutes.
Mix the egg, egg yolks, sugar, and salt. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture with the egg, egg yolks, sugar, salt and 3 cups of the flour; stir until well combined. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and supple, about 8 minutes.
Turn out onto a floured bread board, and cut into 2 equal parts. Form into cylindrical loaves; let rest for 20 minutes. Divide each loaf in half and roll into a long rope for braiding. Fasten the 4 ends together. Braid. End by fastening the ends, and turning each end under the loaf. Place on cookie sheet, and cover with a towel until doubled in size, about 40 minutes.
Brush risen loaf with a beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
Enjoy!!! God bless. Ruth

I found this website that has a few resources on St. Elizabeth.
http://www.catholicculture.org/lit/calendar/day.cfm?date=200 6-11-17
I have plenty of books with crafts, but no more links that were helpful.
I hope this helps. God bless. Ruth

I posted our St. Elizabeth activities here.
I was very pleased as it is the very first baby steps for us in beginning to try to incorporate more of the liturgical year into our days. I was not raised Catholic so this stuff does not come naturally or easily for me, but the kids and I have been very happy with the results. Thanks to the help of the ladies on this board, I think I just might be able to do this!

Theresa, I just came from your blog and your day was *fabulous*! I love all your ideas (especially the lapbooks)! And would you mind sharing the Goulash recipe when you have a moment? I love to "crockpot" on Sundays.
And Ruth, thank you for the bread recipe. I mentioned it in my post today, though we cheated a bit and baked "quick breads" instead of something yeasted.
This Board is just the best place for idea-sharing and honoring all our beautiful Catholic traditions!

You women are amazing. I posted the recipe hoping someone would try it out and I am ashamed to say I didn't even get to make the bread today. The lapbook is unbeleivable. We are going to make it tomorrow, God willing!!!I have been inspired. Thank you so much.
God bless. Ruth

Thank you Theresa for the inspiration for the lapbook and thank you Ruth for the delicious recipe. We were having a down in the dumps kind of day and your ideas filled it with sunshine.
Here is a post on our 4 Real-inspired day.

Great thread, Helen....thanks for bumping. We're having Chicken Paprika tonight, and just got done reading and narrating "Elizabeth's Roses" from the Chidren's Book of Home and Family.
We have a loaf of bread ready for a neighbor, with some homemade rose-wrapping-paper to wrap it in.
The girls are coloring Matilda's coloring page this afternoon. Loved Theresa's lapbook!

The bread recipe was fantastic. We really enjoyed it. Too bad I didn't think of sharing with the neighbors!! We'll have to do that next year.
