For those new to the Wednesday in the World, series welcome! My hope is that we can share articles that may not stand-alone enough to post as their own discussion on a forum here, but do have interest or merit to members and are related to our mission. We'll mainly focus on timely news and "what's happening in the world now" topics, which as we all know, come and go quickly! Some members here have time or interest to sift through big quantities of material, while many don't. Hopefully sharing some of the best stuff will be a blessing. Some of us are using a free online service called www.scoopit.com to curate and organize this content. Using this service isn't necessary to share or discuss content here.
How's that? Close? OK...on to it!
By far, my favorite article that I read this past week, I posted on Gems for a Happy Family LIfe. It's called "All Happy Families Are Unalike."
Quote:
I look at my sons with their children and my daughter with hers, and I am impressed by their parenting. I am pretty sure theirs is better than was mine. That is as it should be. |

If you can hang with satire and the BS word, do read "Father Teaches Son How To Fly Into Rage Over Completely Inconsequential BS". It's from The Onion and just really cut to the core. OUCH!
You?
Have a great week!
Love,

I just read Martha's linked article to Lessons on Success and Deliberate Practice from Mozart, Picasso, and Kobe Bryant.. Great read! I appreciated the "10 Years of Silence" part of mastery which got me thinking about how this type of benchmark can be connected to so much of what we do - to include mothering, becoming a fabulous wife, homeschooling, etc.
Plus, my sons will enjoy the read so I plan to share it with them. Thanks, Martha!
Love,

A favorite quote of mine is

Funny how the same circumstances can make one family (or individual) miserable and others manage to find things that still make them happy, while in the midst of those same type of circumstances.

Just watched Jodie's link to Ashton Kutcher's speech. This is a no miss!
Plus, Ashton Kutcher is Mr. Twitter so while I know very little of him and have watched him in movies even less...pretty much never... this guy made me smile :)
Love,

What's really interesting about that quote being attributed to Lincoln?
After the deaths of 3 of their 4 children before adulthood, they both suffered extreme "melancholy", which we would call clinical depression today.
His wife was near or actually suicidal for much of their marriage, to the point she was committed to a mental asylum for a brief period.
The president was known to retreat into deep depressions late into the night and there was often great worry about his lack of sleep. By day and often into the evening, the demands of public office did not permit him the opportunity to "indulge" in his dark temperaments, but at night he found sleep and peace escaped him.
Despite all this, the Lincoln family was considered a happy family and affectionate household with a reputation for spoiling their children.
