This.
College entrance exams at age 12? I'm pretty sure you have to be at least 16 here...
I've long ago realized a few things:
1- College isn't for everyone.
2- The goal is Heaven, not Harvard.
3- The poor student saints (e.g. St. John Vianney) give me a great peace and hope for my academically struggling child.
When I'm tempted to stress about him not being smart enough or even on par with his peers, I redouble my efforts in the spiritual side of things, character formation, and virtues. The rest will fill itself in as God sees fit.

Yes- love and hate.
It has got me thinking about running with the interests my dc show, though.
DS loves science, and I have been trying to think of more ways to incorporate science in his daily school work. This article spurred me on to redouble my efforts there.
Elly- I love the idea of redoubling my prayers on behalf of my children as well. Thank you for that wonderful perspective!

Fascinating.
Love and hate for me, too!

Here's a blog post by someone who took the time to read the book and offers her opinion. I think she has some great thoughts on it. Things are not always what they seem.

Thanks for linking. It is just all very fascinating. The original article left me wondering specifically how they did all this, and your link to Waltzing Matilda answered many of my questions.
Still, what this article has left me with is a desire to pay more attention to what my dc are truly interested in and make more of an effort to delve into these areas.
So, if anyone needs me, I will be in line at the grocery store (again) with a cooler and a pair of gloves buying my ds another 3 lb of dry ice to experiment with.

For my younger DS, we have salamander eggs in a tub on the back porch and wooly bear caterpillars and praying mantis eggs on the front porch. AND DS is outside trying to catch the goldfinch that he started seeing this week.
It's just a zoo here.

Oh yes, and why my video camera is always in the Lego area of the basement, usually out of battery. And my front window bay is currently covered in seedlings, none of which are mine.
God Bless,
Anita

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on this, knowloveserve! It's one I wholeheartedly share, but sometimes feel conflicted over, especially when more worldly views inevitably come creeping in. I'm printing your post and placing it on our refrigerator as a reminder! Thank you again!
(Thanks to the dear soul who shared how to post a quote in the past! I'm hoping my feeble memory serves me well enough for this to actually work!)

I have watched the video a few times now (showing it to dh and ds) and the thing that bothers me every time is the soon to be Navy Doc. She gets choked up and teary. It could be caused by just about anything but to me she looks stressed out.

You can take CLEP at any age I believe--there was a homeschooled student locally that both she and her brother were in college in their early teens. That being said, it is definitely not for everyone. And maybe my bar is too low but currently I am happy with my son's spiritual growth....and when he remembers to shower and wear deoderant on a regular basis!

Yes. This.
I'm thinking my bar is a little low too!
