Ha! I remembered to post Wednesday Shout Out! on Wednesday!
While we do not debate party politics because it is polarizing and beyond the focus of this ministry , I would be ignoring the elephant in the room to not mention the election. The results are big, they have affected me personally and all of us collectively. Today my brain shifts from the unknown to the known.
In times of flux, I tend to really grab onto things I can count on to bring calm and peace to me and my family. Today I'll stick with a streamlined routine, give extra space to ponder, then throw in a few treats to enjoy. I'm also going to pick out one project to do with my hands that has a beginning, a middle, and an end - putting my spices into new, matching containers with pretty labels
Is anyone else watching The Voice? That will be one of my treats .
Happy Wednesday, all
Love,

I love your perspective, Angie!
We have a quiet day planned, too - the weather is supposed to be slushy later - but I do hope to get in an afternoon walk, even if I get a bit wet. I've been walking a few times a week for several weeks now and it is really helping my mental outlook improve. I think I need to spend more time outdoors, enjoying God's beautiful world! (Oh, and dealing with those leaves... )
We are gearing up for Dancing Daughter's big autumn events; I'm trying to get a jump on Christmas shopping this time around so that I can really enjoy Advent instead of spending all of it trying to catch up on pre-Christmas tasks. We're also trying to help our neighbor states' residents who were hit hard by the storm. The mid-Atlantic area is so interconnected; many of my friends here have family in NY and NJ, and we have dance friends there, too. As I've said a few times in the past, it's all personal for us. This is an important time for my family to reach out toward those who've lost so much.

Well not only was yesterday the Election but it was Scouts so no matter what Tuesdays are hectic. So Wednesdays are always a bit calmer and quieter.
I'm reading Anne of Green Gables.. what a nice thing for the evenings when the rest of life is rather hectic.
We had a good coupon in the newspaper this last week (could use one every visit) so I did a lot of shopping and stocked up some stuff.. a full pantry makes me feel so much richer than the money it took to do it. plus I got the things we need to start Christmas baking.. we'll see family on Thanksgiving and I want stuff ready to give then rather than shipping it so need to start really soon.
I'm going to can pumpkin today.. have to do it in cubes (not puree) for safety but as I told my oldest.. we just mash it out of the jar instead of waiting for it to thaw.

Thanks for addressing the 'elephant' in such a delicate way! Now with the unknown behind us, some of the decisions I was pondering for our family's future have been made with this outcome.
We had a second showing last weekend, but didn't make the final cut.
Dentist visits and eye doctors this week, plus we had a class today on Native Americans. The holidays are fast approaching so I need to pull out the recipes and decide on some dishes to share at the family gatherings.

I'm thinking chocolate chip cookies, myself. It's currently 20 below zero and a good day for baking.
I have a new Bible study class starting this evening so the kids are on their own for dinner. I'm betting they will make instant mac and cheese--a gluten-filled, chemical-laden treat they only get when I am not around, LOL!.
And dh comes home at midnight tonight after being away a week. (His current job requires him to work for a week in the far off town of Bethel, then he gets a week off at home. Then back to Bethel for a week, etc.)Though his job is good and pays well, we are all praying for him to get a local job with no travel!

I'm making polvoron (a Filipino milk candy), hunkering down, mourning, praying, thinking, hugging my kids, cocooning for a bit.
And attending a concert tonight where my eldest daughter sings!! With my 10-yo!
Girls' night out!!
The next few weeks I'm probably rereading Lord of the Rings and the Narnia series, and books I've been meaning to read that I've let go for far too long -- need to get back to reading Interior Castle.... and continuing to declutter the house, sorta like an advent to Advent. :)

... taking a bit of a break from my day to just *be* here in this space today. Though I can hear my (unusually) rowdy crowd upstairs doing something entirely inappropriate for "indoor" play (this much I know), I'm resting easy that I hear no one screaming or crying, so I've pretended to close my ears to the noise and just let them carry-on with their antics - after all, they're having fun and I'm enjoying some hot tea!
I'm feeling a bit introspective today. And actually, have been for a while now. Perhaps the election has brought it to a culminating pinnacle, but truly, it has more to do with the fact that we went from being intentionally introverted (as a family), spending the first 9 months of the twins' life largely at home, nurturing our relationships, loving our new home, becoming intimate with our environment, and just allowing a beautiful, natural rhythm to develop all on its own; now to a weekly schedule of outside activities that was only compounded by the week of Halloween and visits by grandparents. Today is the first day that I've felt a hush, and release, and a true need to just BE once again.
So, with that, I shall do what needs to be done to achieve this - despite our weekly activities, of which we are committed to for the forseeable future. ... I'm still thinking this through. I'm not one to ignore the tug in my heart...
I'm excited for Advent this year. Super excited Last year I was in the throws of late-pregnancy with the twins and battling pre-eclampsia and 4 to 5 doctors visits per week, which included multiple non-stress tests at the hospital. Not much happened in terms of preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ ... oh, yeah. AND we were packing our house up to move too! ... what a difference a year makes. Speaking of a year, that means that my twins will be a YEAR old soon! Holy moly. ... another thing to take pause with, my how this year has changed our lives.
The Holy Spirit has been a huge presence within me lately - continuing to quiet myself and listen clear.

My dh is seeking comfort from a soccer game with his favorite team, Bayern Muenchen, just stomping Lille (France) 5 - 0 and it is only 40 minutes into the game!
I was able to spend some quiet time with a dear friend (german) today over coffee and knitting. She taught me to knit socks last year and continues to assist me in all my knitting and homemaking ventures! It was an easy, relaxed and very quiet time. She knows and understands what the election means and she was a huge support.
I made homemade salted butter today. Yum! Now I also have some buttermilk to bake with tomorrow.

I'm here! That is about all I can say. It's been a tough week. I've been sick and still trying to get things done anyway. I plan to rest tomorrow!
I am looking forward to advent too! I have been making plans ahead of time and should be actually able to pull something off this year. I am excited about that.

Re: the elephant in the room - emotionally it is a hard day. But heard a great homily today from a wonderful priest who is on lone to our diocese from Arlington (and a friend of Jenn's family - we are blessed to have him here for awhile). As I tend to the pessimistic, it is so good for me to have positive models around me reminding me to be trusting and hopeful and to live our lives with joy - as it is only through our joy will we convert hearts.

Stef, ironically Fr. used a Frodo/Gandalf quote in his homily today (after quoting scriptures as well)...
Quote:
Frodo: "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought." |

I'm here too, just here.... re the elephant in the room dealing with sad kids and a sad Mom.
Got a great check up re: the baby. He is doing great and all is well at 36 weeks today! WOW, does each pregnancy get quicker than the last? How am I 36 weeks? Feeling like I am 36 weeks since I'm having all sorts of trouble sleeping on my side thanks to some hip joint pain but baby is cooking well and only 28 days to go until my due date!

Today was a quieter day here...shifting gears in thinking and attitude.
I finished up my menus for the next couple of weeks and got my grocery lists on Cozi.
We're wrapping up a term and looking forward to starting afresh next week.
Gave myself permission (I didn't have to twist my arm very much! ) to sit down and thoroughly enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire today - very cheery!
And I organized and hung up all the maternity clothes in my closet. At 15 weeks, there's just no avoiding "the panel" any more.
So...not much - just little things that are delightful in their littleness and continue to bring great joy, and in turn gratitude.
to all of you tonight!!

I was doing very similar things today. Where could we move? and can I live off the grid? Right now we aren't even ready for an emergency like a snowstorm or hurricane!
Also hoping to have a stiff drink tonight.
I'm picking up the pieces in my family life and home from doing my workshop at the Living Advent. It was a wonderful day, and the talk went so well. I had so many obstacles, but the actual talk I was (mostly) calm and it was down to the minute of perfect timing in my planned talk (even though I didn't time it beforehand).
I got to meet Betsy and LisaR in real life, plus Ruth and Kacky were also attending.
Evelyn Vitz's talk was wonderful, and then she had 3 of her grown daughters and one daughter in law speak on how they implement different aspects of Advent. Very lovely! And I knew one of the daughters from my Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training and never knew she was a Vitz! So cool!
The coastal storm totally missed us, we got nothing but clouds and cold wind.
And what's on our mind right now is kitchen-- my oven is broken, but what to do? Buckling down to solid school work and getting back to organizing and purging.
